  1. This always happens when you have a new "technology" placed in with traditional. In the years previous to ATV's and ATC's we could ride in the back woods with little restriction or complaints. The idiot's that drank and rode would only do it once as the pain from the crash was too much for them. As soon as ATV's arrived, drinking and driving and theft of cutting equipment etc., rose to the point that most of the places we rode became off limits. Then of course licenses, permits, etc.. Same with jet skis. Prior to them there were some but few problems. As soon as jet skis came on the scene, all rules had to be changed and new ones implemented. Now you can't even put a portable slalom course within 200 feet of the shoreline, besides licensing etc.. The moral is, if you create something any moron can use, they will try to prove themselves to you while drunk.
  2. What you're really taking about is the distance from the bottom of the ski to the working surface of the wing. The closer the wing is to the bottom of the, ski the more effect it has during the pull and preturn. The further it's away from the bottom the more effect it has during the turn.
  3. @Bruce55 Do not misunderstand, I wasn't putting down anyone's practice scores or why they don't want to go to tournaments, the skiing is the important part. Keeps you fit, mentally sharp and innovative. For me personally I like the small home grown tournament scene because you meet people and get to spend time with them. Years ago our tournaments were more social events, almost more so than skiing events (almost). Lots of people used to come to watch a little but more so just to get together. Too bad those times are gone.
  4. I see one problem I see with practice scores as opposed to tournament scores. Several years a go, a bunch of guys who weren't skiing all that long were getting deep into 38. When we went there to check the site for a possible tournament there, we found that the floating course was several feet narrower on each side and very short. In the days of old RPM PP that meant 31-32 mph on a 5 foot narrow course. When all was fixed the scores were a couple at 28 off not deep 38.

But either way ya have to have fun at it too.

  5. I had a similar injury last year and was lucky to be off for only 3 weeks (powershells). However since then, I modified my velcro to the recommended amount of strips for weight as posted by someone here (thank you). I also put the bulk of the tape at the front and rear of the plate. Last night I was at ball 4 (35) and had a similar fall again. This time my ski came off, abit like a yard sale, but not injury. Again thanks to whoever (Scott ?) posted the recommended amount of velcro because I'm convinced that saved me.
  6. Black or clear ? The clear is pretty easy, the top "hard" layer separates and peels off the stickum below. Then just a little ribbing with the thumb peels the remainder on the ski.

The black is a whole different animal. The bottom stickum layer is easiest to stip with lacquer thinner, but you can't use that on top of Goode skies. I don't know about others.

  7. A battery a year sounds like something wrong. 1 every 5-8 years is my average. All speed controls are sensitive to electronic interference and related problems. You should find your battery problem asap.
  8. I don't ski quite as much as GOODESkier, I'm more a 1 set and sometimes two set guy with the rest about the same, but my Boa's are on their third season and just in need of replacement now. I use to go through a lot of gloves when I bought them too tight. I just ordered a new set.
  9. OK Eric, this is a really old story but maybe you'll find some humor in it.

Many years ago when we were learning to trick, we'd all go in tournaments anyway. One of our friends had a little larger nose, although we sure made more of it. He did one of his first "backs" in the tournament but bent over so far in that position that his nose dragged in the water for a bit and pretty well made a wake. We called it a new trick a "nose back"
