  1. The very first time I skied with my buddies 78 ski nautique at lake Berryessa in 1980. Put it in the water and starter was locked up. No biggie we thought. We went to the nearest parts store and got a new starter. Boat still wouldn’t start so I took the air cleaner off. We cranked again and gas and air was shooting up in the air out of the carb. I said to Larry, that’s weird, looks like it’s trying to run backwards?? Then the lightbulb went off in Larry’s mind, “Oh crap!! These motors are reverse rotation!!” Ski Day postponed.
  2. Back in my men 2 days, I had just gotten a new Schnitz fin. I was vacationing on a houseboat and my buddy and I found a course to ski on. Went down the line ran 38, then ran 39. I praised the heavens that I FINALLY found the secrets sauce. Then my buddy skied, a 2@35 skier, ran 38...

Measured the course, almost 2 feet narrow ?

I skied better with the fin, just not that good!

  3. Broke my ankle in double d3 leverage rubber boots that didn’t release in 2011. 3 years to be able to run short line again, never fully recovered. Mike Suyderhoud told me he uses Vaseline in his bindings. So now I use reflex Goode front, rubber boot rear with Vaseline, the crashes so far, full and quick release, no injuries. For those that can’t do a rear toe, viable option. Hope that helps someone else!
  4. And then there’s tail rocker. I recently tried a 67” ski that I hadn’t tried before(190 lbs) The tail rocker was pretty flat compared to other skis I’ve ridden. Bottom line, no matter what fin/binding settings I tried, could not get it to finish the turn. So a longer ski with more rocker will still turn, then there’s how much flex the tail has. I rode a 68” HO A1, one of the best ski seasons of my life in 2010. It had a lot of tail rocker in comparison. My .02, longer skis that still turn are easier on the ole back.
  5. If there’s not excessive play, here’s what I’ve done and works great. Rudder shafts sometimes get burrs. Remove rudder, shoe shine shaft with emery cloth to polish. Then take a brake cylinder hone, put it in your drill and polish the inside of the rudder port with WD40. Clean, lube the rudder shaft, reinstall. If the rudder port doesn’t have a zirk fitting install one. Should be one finger butter after that!
  6. 68" Vapor, just stumbled on to new settings. Accidentally hit the mud at my neighbor Jerrit's dock, next set skied 5 buoys better! Fin was "readjusted" to 6.910, 2.450, .760. Tried putting it back to Rini settings, didn't work as well for me. Put it back to the "Jerrit's dock mud impact settings", holy smokes! 35's very easy. I'm 198lbs, bindings 30 3/8" Power shells, 8.5 wing.
  7. I've been using seaspecs for about 10 years, they have vents that keep the lens clear, they're polarized, float(I zip tie a piece of colored neoprene on the strap to make em easier to find in a crash). They also make prescription lens as well. Put a little rain x on em and they're awesome :) www.seaspecs.com
  8. Same break here, right foot, rff. Lot's of fun tendon damage with a torn achilles that healed long which caused my calf to not work. After seeing the head of foot and ankle at U/W and him telling me, "what do you want to do?" uh, run again? He then said "Sorry, that's not going to happen in this lifetime" What an arrogant dork. Next I got referred to Dr. Scott Woll at rebound orthopedic in Portland. He's a team surgeon for the trailblazers. He took one look at the mri and said, "yep, I can fix it, I've got several nba players playing with the same injury" He did a great job, I've been working it out and it's coming back nice and strong now. I can't wait to ski this year! If you're in the pnw and have ankle issues, Dr. Woll is one amazing surgeon! ps, now using power shells. fyi, if you're using rubber boots, be sure to put vaseline in the heel. My binding would have released and I could have bypassed a whole lot of trouble and rehab!
