  1. buy another mans boat buy another mans problems. jb weld *over* the cracks won't do you much good. using a die grinder and a small burr grind a bit of a groove along the length of each crack with the crack being at the center of the bottom of the groove. this will give the jb weld some side walls to grab on to. i've known a few guys who successfully saved a cracked block this way.
  2. @TallSkinnyGuy -' just have him lift one ski out of the water while on doubles and hold it for 5+ seconds, then do the same with the other. ' if he *does* do the same with the other ski with out putting the first ski back down on the water be sure to take video cause thats gonna get a gazillion hits on you tube!
  3. i think the distance from ball to shore can vary greatly from lake to lake and even from ball to ball. here's an extreme example -
  4. I have seen older skiers use a belt like device with a loose end that can be draped over the handle and then gripped to hold in place. its not wrapped 360 * around the handle -just' hooked ' over and pinched under one of the skiers hands. i saw hortons dad using a similar thing in a trick ski video a few years ago so horton should be able to provide more info about it.
  5. funny -when i first glanced as the thread title i thought it said ' teaching kids to use a *broom*. . . ' and i thought yeah wouldn't *that* be great!
  6. buford danger horton 20 years later: ' daddy drank. '
  7. @DanE -actually the *effective* difference between the shallow side and the normal side would be much less than you think since the reduction in surface area would the area under an arc -not a depth change that runs the entire length of the fin.
  8. @Wish - in my experience stand up paddle board yoga was an incredible work out -cause all i did all day was swim.
  9. @Edbrazil - i'm guessing you created your fingertrap tensioning method *after* this article was published? that might be a good thing to reproduce here as well . . .
  10. i've been to tommy's in colorado exactly twice and i was extremely impressed with their friendliness and professional knowledge about their products and the industry in general. plus they have a vast inventory of past and current products to choose from.
  11. @Horton: ' I did not invent the word stack. ' No -that word was invented by the early fans of jayne mansfield.
  12. 1/4 inch plastic water hose would be very durable and will not collapse even under full vacuum -which is only 14 psi. you would want to incorporate a water trap in the vacuum side to prevent sucking any loose water through your compressor / vacuum pump. this trap is simply an air tight tank with a drain valve on the bottom.
  13. i would be more concerned about relative mass. being able to tow 2000 lbs on reasonably level ground is one thing but trying to back a boat down a launch ramp and control it's decent with the brakes on a vehicle that it out weighs is an entirely different matter. so i think you should go for it -and don't forget to take video.
  14. @Edbrazil -looking real close but i can't see the article from here. can you hold it up a little higher?
  15. okay i've done my best at trying to find the answer with no luck. does anyone have recommended fin numbers for a 2016 radar vapor *69 inch*? i searched the radar site, this site, and google in general with out result. would really like to know what numbers will switch this ski to the ' on ' mode.
  16. in those days bruce jenner still swerved -now he swishes.
  17. ' meet the new boss . . . same as the old boss . . . get on our knees and pray we don't get fooled again. '
  18. not mentioned but important -make very sure she is comfortable floating in water with a life vest before adding a towed activity. a small blunder in the water that scares her at this age could have a lasting negative effect later on.
  19. i was told herb obrien paid a small fortune to settle a patent infringement law suit with the guy who invented the set screw mod to the fin block. since connelly and ho are owned by the same company now maybe they're gun shy about what happened when herb owned ho? or possibly the settlement with ho prevents who ever owns ho from licensing the assigned rights to any other ski company?
  20. it scares me because she wants to use a racquetball paddle for tennis. she keeps going with that agenda and her left arm is going to be the size of horton's thighs.
  21. obrien elite - early model w non stock fin block
  22. to err on the side of caution i would suggest you use a large padded c-clamp or similar to pull the block flush to the surface and then install the screws. that will avoid any undue thread load or wear trying to pull the block down with just the screws alone.
