  1. @LanceHCook , I was just going to keep it simple and use the propane that is already over there on that side (passenger side) of the camper. I know @Horton started off this section of the forum with a post on pellet, but I want to not have to carry the fuel, and also, when skiing and mountain biking, I don't want to wait for briquets to warm up, or pellets to do whatever they do to get ready. Flame on!

    Splitter for propane tank

    Grill kinda like this

I am envisioning creating an atmosphere something like this, off that starboard side of the camper. This was on a supported (by our own campers) gravel road and trail hot springs bike trip we took a couple years ago.

I also plan on finding one more trailer jack and moving that tripod one into a quad position with the addition of another at the rear.

@thager no fear. There will be duck tape in the drawer. And maybe gorilla tape. Right now, there is just some blue tape and some black electrical tape.

  2. Traded out with my neighbor for a good condition, albeit older, Northstar pop-up truck camper. When we ski at the north lakes, we tent camp. I am tired of sleeping on the ground, and want a bed. Hopefully to help waking up not as stiff. A trailer won't work, as that is where the boat goes. But this will. Pretty stoked! Now, for some truck shopping. It will be used, 250/2500 level at least, crew cab, deciding between long bed or standard (the 8' camper will go in either), and would like diesel, but wouldn't pass up a strong gasser. I get to swap out our suburban with my buddy's truck until I get my own truck, so that is a bonus.

Meanwhile, excited about the new shelter. I was envious of all the campers at @bigskieridaho's lake when I entered the tourney there, and I bet I could use it down at Black Butte occasionally too. In addition to the freeskiing. It will also work for mountain biking, hiking, and at least spring snow skiing trips as well.

There is my neighbor in this one, the guy with all the good tools and beer fridge.

  3. I live, work and play on the slopes of Sun Valley, Idaho. Hope to see some of you folks here! If you come, PM me and I will buy you a beer or a coffee. Or if I have time while you are here, take a run. Seriously.

EDIT: @DaveD , If you want to drive a little further than Targhee, Sun Valley is a couple/few hours away from Jackson. And both are on the MountainCollective pass which you should check out. It is a pretty good deal if you are traveling around and skiing at all. https://mountaincollective.com/

  4. Wanted to follow up and say that it was worth way more than I paid to be coached by Terry this year, and that I continue to find good value in his trainwithterrywinter.com online lesson site. He continues to put out good new information, and answer questions that even heading into winter I find helpful to refine my mental imagery and visualization. Highly recommended.
  5. Lots and lots. A ton of re-learning, and re-booting, and striving to improve technique to take better advantage of modern skis, including me new one my wife bought me this last Christmas. It would take too long to describe all the things I have worked on here. Suffice it to say, it was all oriented toward starting with a balanced, natural and strong position, and then maintaining that position no matter where you are in the course/turn, and that you have to move to do so. Not a static thing. And also learned to actually complete the course. I also learned competing is fun. And, I learned the value of investing in some good, qualified coaching.

PS, it is pretty great, and I feel very fortunate, to be able to learn and improve at this stage in life. What a great sport!

  6. The snow skis I run (Head) use something called Graphene, which is very light, and very strong. Head is making some light, damp feeling (they are heads after all) skis using the material. It would be very interesting, I think, to see it incorporated into waterskis. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/graphene-looking-beyond-the-hype/

Beyond that, I agree with getting the best built ski you can afford, especially if you want to improve a score in the course. Even at my comparatively pedestrian level.

  7. If @AdamCord is correct, then my better side should not switch and should remain 1,3,5/Onside, though hopefully I can even it out with practice. And based on my experience out of the course, as Adam also mentions, that should happen with more course practice. I feel much more comfortable with my offside out of the course. Hopefully as I get continued course experience, my offside will start to feel better there too. A lot of this year has been about getting used to seeing things in the water when I am turning, keeping my vision where it should be and skiing rather than looking and pointing, and getting used to some timing. At least at a rudimentary level.

  8. Been there, did that. Winterized myself for the first time, bugging @oldjeep with a lot of questions on another forum. Squeezing in some more mountain biking and hiking during our autumn, then it will be time to hit the slopes. Early PSIA clinic on Functional Movement Assessment and strategies to improve function, movement and flexibility tomorrow, and marketing the ski program at the Warren Miller movie tonight. Truly that time of year.

Also, the coming season should also be enjoyable. Take a look: (again, not intended as a Sun Valley commercial, just showing all there is to do in the coming season.)

  9. I received a link to the AWSA survey this morning and followed it to do the survey, and it asked about a ranking. So I went and looked and low and behold I have one. I had no idea that I even had one. And it wasn't completely the bottom of the barrel. Cool! More motivation to keep working on things. I am finding that adding some measurement to my skiing actually is motivating to me.
  10. @dchristman , if the snow conditions were right, one could replace that tree with a snowmobile. Mebbe.

But more on topic and realistic, I am trying out a trx system, and would love to find, or recreate, something like the perfect pull to do some work on position. Other than that, my alpine and nordic skiing, and good core work and stretching/yoga, and roller work/pressure ball work, to open hips is what I am hoping to do this year.
