  1. I'm 5'8" and 145 lbs and just got on the N-1 a few weeks ago. Factory fin settings were 2.495, 6.845, .71 dft, and 9 degrees on the wing. I was coming off a 9800 and could not get the N-1 to initiate the turn (on both on-side and off-side) as well as the 9800. I decided to reset the fin on the N-1 to my 9800 settings and it instantly started turning like a F-1 race car. I shallowed the fin to 2.440", increase wing angle to 9.5, and left the length untouched. My personal theory is a lighter weight skier doesn't have the power of a larger/heavier skier, and can benefit from a quicker turning ski by shallowing the fin without risking blowing out the tail in a turn and giving up very little in cross course tracking.
  2. Well, I just added a Nano One to the stable. Thanks for all the helpful advice......Looking forward to dialing in the new ski.
  3. I'm considering hopping on a Nano One (from a 9800) for the start of the ski season. Most everyone I know who skies on the Nano One loves it, but I'm curious what difference, if any, between the Nano One and last years XT version. According to the Goode website it appears the only difference is the XT has a sharper bevel. Curious to hear fellow Ballers opinions on the difference between the two skies.
  4. My top 3 exercises are pull ups (I do 3 reps of 20 everyday I walk into the gym), 25 squats with 25 lb. weight while standing on a Bozu ball, (lifting the weight overhead after coming up on the squat...great for balance, core, legs, and arms), and 25 step ups with 50 pound barbell (also great for balance, core, and legs)
  5. OB needs to take us all to FL!!.......I'm having end of season withdrawals.
  6. I used a 12" In-Tow handle all last year and when I went to replace it this year I mistakenly ordered a 13" handle. The first time I tried the 13" handle I thought it felt way too big.....but after a few sets on it I now find the 12" handle is too narrow.
  7. I think we had a problem getting the Nano-picnic table dialed in.....It felt a bit squirrelly around the ball.
  8. Flying down to Palm Bay to ski in a 3 round turn and burn at Stillwater Lakes......Looking forward to a good day and can't wait to see OB ski on his new Nano-0 picnic table. I've heard he stoking 39.5' off on that thing.
  9. I'll be there skiing in Men's 4 on Sunday.
  10. Ive been riding a 9800 SL (left foot forward) with Powershells for about a year....I've changed just every thing on the ski from binding placement to fin adjustment and I just can't ski a comfortable consistent set on the ski. Sometimes I'm riding the tail of the ski through the gates and other times I'm burying the tip on my off side turn. Last year I came off a Goode 9200 with Wiley bindings and had the ski totally dialed in. It was comfortable and predictable.....I knew exactly how much input it would take to initiate a turn. It felt like a Ferrari where my 9800 feels more like a station wagon. I'm thinking about getting off my ski and am curious how the 9800 compares to the Nano One. Would I notice much of a difference in the Nano One? How about a comparison of the 9800 to the D3? Any other suggestions?
  11. I "tweaked" my lower back last Friday practicing for a tournament.....the pain in my low back was so bad that I couldn't bend over and put my shoes on. I could walk without much pain but couldn't bend over, sit down, or lay down. I was signed up for a tournament the following day and after taking a narcotic pain pill and spending a good hour and a half walking and stretching my legs and back I actually felt well enough to ski. What's amazing is my back actually felt much better after I skied than before. The real key is using proper form behind the boat and not taking slack line hits.
  12. OB, happy to give you a pull behind my MC anytime. We just put the course in today at Alatoona. Looking forward to getting a good start to the skiing season....and looking forward to skiing in the Atlanta ProAm.....Richard Rones (Oneski)
  13. Donated......It's a great way to support our sport and generate interest in a one of a kind tournament.
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. I ordered (and just received today) the blue theraband fkexbar. I also ordered a pair of Masterline Prolock gloves and sent my handle back to Masterline to have them put a curve in it......I hope all this stuff helps! Started the flexbar excerises a few hours ago.
  15. I've been fighting a bout of tendinitis for over a month now....Got it playing racketball just one time and continued to aggravate it working out over the last 6 weeks. I got a cortisone shot two weeks ago with no relief. I don't mind living with the pain so long as it doesn't get worse and doesn't affect my skiing. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with tennis elbow during ski season and what remedies have worked.
  16. I have just one goal this year for skiing: Qualify for Nationals. After taking a 6 year break from the sport I started skiing again last June. I took me a few months to get back into skiing shape, and unfortunately by then the season was just about over. Coming into this year I made my goal to simply qualify for Nationals. Personally, I like the old days when you had to get an EP rating and you knew exactly what bouy count you needed.....Unfortunately, today it's somewhat of a moving target. But the goal is the same.
  17. Ok, so to pass some time on a cold winter night I got caught up in a bit of nostalgia and started thinking about my younger skiing days. I found myself thinking about Spray magazine; Wayne Grimditch winning the Superstars and setting a world jump record of 180'; The Lapoint brothers competing; Flying Sammy Duvall; Mike Hazelwood putting up a huge wall of water; Cory Pikos and Patrice Martin doing some amazing trick runs at the Masters. Just curious what some of you other Old School Ballers remember about the earlier days of skiing.
  18. Folks it just doesn't get any better than this. I've been skiing off and on for over 30 years and today was a definite highlight for me and skiing. No, I didn't set a PB or qualify for Nationals, but I was able to spend the afternoon with Andy and Deena Mapple, OB, and Chris Rossi out at their very nice site. I got to sit in the boat and watch the living legend, Mr Mapple run into deep 41' off. Then I got to ski with Andy giving me some really good coaching advice. OB skied a few sets on the new Mapple ski. All in all it was an awesome day. I would highly recommend any Ballers coming to the Orlando area to look up Andy (or someone on his team) for a few sets of skiing. He's got a great ski lake and does a really good job of picking up on things we all tend to miss. He gave me a few things to think about and moved my wing angle slightly, and it improved my skiing big time.
  19. I set it up to ski a set on Monday with Mr. Mapple in the boat....who, in my book, is the greatest slalom skier of all time. I am totally stoked!
  20. I'll be in Orlando next Monday through Thursday was was looking to ski a few sets. Any suggestions on ski schools? I was thinking about Matt Rini or Chris Rossi (I don't know where Chris's lake is and can't find a website for him). Drew Ross was another possibility, but he may be a bit far away for me.
  21. My first ski was an EP Comp 1.....I wish I still had it....Would be a blast to ski on it again, although I don't think it would measure up well with the new skies out today.
  22. I recently switched over from a Goode 9200 (with double high wraps) to a Goode 9800SL with Wiley double high wraps. I've been trying to get the ski dialed in with minor bindings and fin adjustments but I've been getting a painful bruise right under the toenail on my front foot big toe. Anyone know what might cause the bruise and how I can alliviate the pressure on my toe? The bindings feel snug (but not too tight) when I put the ski on.
