  1. @vtmecheng is correct, the new mob plate does not require any tape or interlock if you have the standard trick ski inserts in your ski. D3 is now putting the additional inserts up front that accommodate longer plates in some of their skis. As @BraceMaker said, if the slalom ski manufacturers would include either standard set of inserts it would help many skiers with the use of their preferred release system.

BTW, I can easily mount Joel’s boot on the mob release system if he wanted it...

  2. @Horton i have run tournaments for over forty years, including regional and national championships. You will not really make money on running the tournament, you make money on selling sponsorship. The money made on the tournament would barely be worth the labor effort for a homeowners group. Strong sponsorship can make it worthwhile but someone has to sell the event to sponsors.
  3. @jercrane at the recent RC tournament at Lymanland a large number of junior skiers were using the MOB release. Easier to find the best fitting boot for growing feet. And safer for learning side slides and surface turns since it will release sideways. It takes away a lot of those sudden slap down falls! Plus it is real easy to share a ski since you can use multiple size boots with the same release setup.

If you want something used contact me. I have several systems previously used by team members that I would love to get juniors on. Plus you can find used hardshell boots(in-line skates) at thrift stores or used sporting goods stores that will work on the MOB release. My kids grew up using used skate boots and this type release. My daughter tricks near 4000 points.

  5. @DavidT you can usually find some clinics held with pro coaches from time to time, maybe not this summer. There is still a ski club/group skiing at Logan Martin Lake by the dam. My daughter and I ski on Lay Lake, and keep up a slalom course there. The people at Lake Martin Marine can help you on that lake, there are slalom courses there also.

If you want to ski with us some time, email or call me. My daughter and I are both very high level coaches.

  6. After years of me telling my daughter that using a double high wrap rubber rear boot, even though it fit loose, that she was at risk, she broke her foot in a sudden otf fall at Nationals last year. She tried all the options for a rear boot and went back with a similar rubber boot with a different lower wrap configuration that will allow her foot to release in that otf type fall. I strongly recommend the low cut r style rear boot or the HRT to be used with a releasable front boot if you cannot adapt to a RTP.
  7. @Shakeski since you are already running the upper laces loose, just remove them completely. You will get the same general feel as the R style boot.

Too much influence from your back leg can be detrimental to your off side turns. The lower cut r style boot helps eliminate that. I cut mine even lower, below my ankle.

You can feel better connected with a thinner foot bed, you can even cut the bottom out of the liner, which I have tried. But at some point comfort can also have a bearing.

  8. @Jetsetr I am one of those that loves old style boats, though not necessarily to ski behind. I sold a lot of Brendella in the Southeast when they were popular. They are great little ski boats. I have also done some restoration on a couple of them. Here is one of the resin products to use for stringer repair:
