  1. There will be efforts to reverse this decision and I hope that all BOS members will support them as they come. Let’s not accept defeat just yet. It would be really good if NCWSA/AWSA leadership started working with that team to lobby the school as well.

Collegiate skiing is our sport at its best, but it wouldn’t take much for other schools to see ISU as an example so it’s important to support them.

I know a few ISU alum, any efforts they bring into the action phase I’ll do my best to pass along.

  2. Yeah, I have some gym stories that are hard to believe, good genetics and good training I guess. Gotta give credit to the old man for getting me into the gym.

@adamhcaldwell I’m looking forward to getting back into my C85 soon with ice going out. I’m gonna start rocking my way deep 38 this season if I get my way!

  3. I think the webcasts have been great. In terms of getting non-skiers to watch… outside of the olympics when was the last time you live streamed gymnastics? Track and field? Archery? Almost no one watches niche sports unless they participate.

The argument “no one can run 9.75” only goes so far with me. It’s not like 6 guys run 10.25 every event, at most it’s two and more often it’s one or none. The competition is happening at 10.25 not shorter. You’re making a change that impacts one skier per tournament. I’m not opposed to 12m openers for the men but I know some of them have suggested that it’s a tough sell only have one pass before 11.25 and I’d rather watch their 13s than watch them get injured.

  4. You don’t need a new world record every two years to have the sport be interesting. Right now we have the highest level of competition we’ve seen in the sport in a very long time. Nate, Will, and TGas frequently to or past 4, then huge bubbles at 2&3, it’s awesome to watch because the podium is literally anyone’s game where in past years it was fairly predictable. On the women’s side we have skiers running 39 and not being on the podium for the first time in history. Also every line you add in a 24 skier event is effectively 3 skiers in terms of time and we’ve seen a lot of events running short on that.
  5. I ran the 35 on two different skis, the Mapple 6.0 and the C85 that I started using in mid-September. It amazed me how the C85 at 3 inches shorter felt like it had the same level of support underneath my feet. Stayed on the C85 through the end of the season and expect to start out on it next year
  6. We’re half way through October, the weather is starting to play against us, and if I get any more ski days there won’t be many of them so with that I have the final tabulations:

    912 completed passes

    246 22s

    466 28s

    196/269 32s - 73%

    4/96 35s

85 total ski days starting with The Boarding School in April, and low volume May, and then really getting after it June - October

I am very happy with both the total and the completion percent for my 32s this year. The previous record for total completed in a season was 83/118 which is a comparable hit rate but this season I ran more of them than I have attempted in any previous season. I wish that the confidence at 32 had paid off into more 35s however I did rack up 4 which brings the lifetime total to 13. In my final tournaments of the year I ran my 32 10/12 times (3 in non-scored bracket challenge rounds after the official tournament) and have tournament scores of 2.5, 3, and 3.5 at 35 composing my 12 month and season 2022 average.

What was likely my last ski day was two sets

    10 28s

    5/5 32s

4.5@35 that I should have ran. Early at 5 ball but fast and was impatient turning before my line tight. Hoping that I can carry what I learned this season forward into next.

  7. Can we all take a step back and nix the personal attacks, this is getting uglier than ugly faster than fast.

If the “for” crowd wants to stick around and keep paying dues, fine, let them. If the “against” crowd wants to leave and stop paying dues, fine, let them.

  8. “Correct” handle hold is relative to foot forward. Right palm up for left foot forward, right palm down for right foot forward. This is the most ergonomic orientation for pulling and turning if you are trying to get through the course in a competitive sense. If you physically can’t hold the handle the correct way then I guess the options are hold it wrong and accept any unorthodox things that come with it or I suppose you could talk to a doctor of some kind ti ask about how to improve range of motion.
  9. This thread is heated enough talking about existing regulations. The discussion of speculative vaccine mandates, their constitutionality, and the political undertone that goes alongside all of it is a thread to itself. It is also a thread that @horton would likely kill off since it would not be skiing related and would with certainty cross the “no politics” rule.
  10. Non skiers are not going to go out of their way to watch competitive skiing unless it’s part of a broader something. How many non-mainstream sports do you go out of your way to watch outside of the Olympics if you aren’t a participant? First thing is first, engage current skiers (members/nonmembers/buoy hunters/free skiers). I think the waterski pro tour is addressing that problem. You need to engage people who already have skis in hand, once you engage that group you can loon at ways to grow beyond
