  1. It sounds like you intentionally practice a non-tournament set and are now complaining that your tournament experience is different than practice. Have you considered “practicing how you perform”? Either practice opening at 28 or practice skiing 35 as your second pass, of course practicing 32,32,35 makes anything else feel weird.
  2. The entire issue is predatory behavior and sexual abuse in sports both for minors and adults. There is no single tool available to the human race that unilaterally solves that entire issue. Safesport training is one tool to address as much of the problem as it can. Like every single issue, education is key to understanding, understanding is key to prevention.
  3. I don’t think control was lost until the ski left the water, but from this angle I can’t tell if the ski left the water before or after the buoy line. Would need end course video but at -41 you can’t be outside the buoy line before you edge change which would suggest to me that the ski could not have been beyond the buoy line before if left the water. Sorry Adam, impressive effort
  4. The moving banner than insists on taking up half the screen is the single worst part of the new site. As a rank and file member, if it wasn’t for that stupid feature I would have no complaint worthy issues
  5. Ok, to back up @Than_Bogan, the level of undress of a person (male or female) has 0 impact on their right to not be harassed/abused/assaulted. And I think we can all agree that harassing/abusing/assaulting other members of our sport is bad.

This training is not to prevent the proverbial “panel van”. It’s to prevent the situations we’ve seen where everyone is surprised to learn that person X was a predator. Because person X was in a position of trust, they had innocuous reasons for interacting with youth athletes, and they used that trust, and those innocuous reasons to do harm.

Now, I think it’s safe to say that for most, the above is not really the argument at hand. What some of you are complaining about is that you don’t like the board telling you what to do… well, I think it’s a dumb hill to die on and a pretty stupid reason to quit competitive skiing but here is me not telling you what to do. Make up your own mind, make your own choice, and for the love of skiing @Horton shut this thread down. This is way more about politics than it is anything else at this point and even if it weren’t I think it’s clear no one is about to change their mind.

  6. In terms of devaluing regionals, doesn’t it devalue regionals to have skiers already qualified for nationals regardless of regional performance?

Raise the qualification standard for regionals and make it the only access route to nationals. Then split up the big regions and drop the entry fee so it is in line with other tournaments instead of double. That would make going to regionals make sense in terms of time and money, it would make it more prestigious in itself, and it would alleviate the frustration of it feeling like a hoop to jump through.

    Or

Drop the regional requirement because it’s an expensive tournament, the travel costs are very real, and it’s hard to work back to back weekends of expensive time consuming tournaments especially if you’re already “qualified” for nationals pending going through the gates on your opener in regionals.

  7. It’s hard to justify the time and money for just one set. And even harder to justify doing it two weeks in a row. Yes, I could trick at regionals, but that would mean an extra night in a hotel and a price hike to the entry fee, my 800 point trick run isn’t worth that $120 tag on expense.

I was considering doing it this year, and if I had skied better at State I might have registered. But when my consistency has been rocky and it’s already a hard to justify tournament I decided against it. I’d rather ski a bunch of practice sets and hang out with my family than spend 14 hours on the road round trip for one set… and then have to do it again the next week. Turns into 28 hours driving and $1000 at least for 30 minutes on the water. That’s tough math right there.

  8. Sadly nothing can change tendon recovery time. 9 months to full tendon strength can’t be sped up. I’m at 12 months right now, can ski at full intensity but wouldn’t have dreamed of it at 9 and you couldn’t have paid me to try at 6. My docs told me I was ahead of the curve in strength every step of the way, it’s just a long road.
  9. My last two skis were set up by the coach they were demo’d with. Austin Able set up my Razor2 and Andy set up my Dad’s Mapple 6.0 which I’ve skied since 2015. The Mapple settings have been tweaked modestly by Chet the last time I skied with him.

I don’t know enough about fins to do much myself so I would always want to start with “recommended” settings and then ski with a coach or pro to help fine tune.

  10. @Ajskier I had a patellar graft, it was recommended for someone my age as the best option. My surgery leg is my back leg which was lucky, but as I said I just got done putting it through a week at the boarding school after 18 months off (6 month MN winter + 1 year ACL recovery) and it held up great. Little bit of inflammation little bit of tenderness the week after.
  11. Hey, I just came off of the same injury. Age is a big factor in graft style. A lot of docs like the patellar graft, the hamstring is also popular. Schedule surgery and accept the fact that you won’t ski this year. Work really hard during physical therapy and you’ll be back. I just got back from ski school and my post op, post rehab, knee held up great. Good luck
  12. Update: I just got back from ski school after an ACL repair and 18 month off season. Huge thanks to @theboardingschool, great coaching, great accommodations. My knee held up, I learned a lot, and honestly skied smoother and more consistent up through 32off than I may ever have.

5 days, 15 sets, 113 passes, and 8 torn blisters later, in looking forward to a great season... after my hands heal up a bit

  13. Yes, the bad person is still going to try to be a bad person. We aren’t trying to have the bad person come to some magical epiphany. These are mental illnesses that will not be overcome by watching a video. The idea is that it’s much harder to get away with being a bad person when everyone in the sport is now watching for it. Could it have been rolled out differently? Sure. Is it worth quitting the sport over? I guess if that’s how you feel, live long and prosper.

In terms of data gathering... Google, Amazon, anything utilizing gps, anything that has access to your photos, literally everywhere you shop even brick and mortar locations. Basically if you participate in society then any sense you have of privacy is an illusion. I understand not being happy about that but that ship has sailed. Is it fun? No. Is it worth quitting the sport over? If that’s how you feel, live long and prosper

  14. @The_MS are you honestly telling me that you moved to a water ski paradise that hosts at least two tourney weekends annually including a record capable event and because of 1 hour of safe sport training you are going to stop tournament skiing? Just turn it into a drinking game, every time they say “safe” take a shot.
