  1. As I have said in similar discussions for years, advancing the sport means making it reasonably affordable and realistic for collegiate skiers to keep skiing post grad. They’re mostly 3-event skiers, they enjoy it, and it is the fastest growing segment of USA waterski but has very little flow through to post collegiate events because ince you aren’t going in on everything with 20 other people they are priced out of the sport and can’t find access to water.
  2. Depending on the state and the lake itself you can get a permit to leave a portable course in for the season, tends to work fine but you need to replace the floats in the arms every few years or they start to bow which narrows your course. Permanent course is a lot of upkeep on a public site since buoys WILL be cut by jet skis, tubes, etc and having to dive to find your buoy lines back is a lot more work than going to the driver buoy and following the arm out to the end to clip a new buoy on.
  3. The difference is if I have funky off side 1,3,5 I tend to break forward and have more than enough power to get my hips back under me, if I have a funky on side 2,4 I fall out the back of the ski and I’m in the water. When I ski a buoy correctly 2,4 turn sharper and keep moving better than 1,3,5 but if something goes wrong I ski away from my typical off side mistake while my typical on side mistake usually puts me in the water
  4. You are likely overshooting on price by a little bit and the needed cosmetic work is probably scaring a few people away. If you are willing to replace the skins and do some exterior work over the winter months you might find more bites in the spring.
  5. Definitely more impressed by the teams with little to no funding that still manage to put up Nationals quality teams year after year, especially in the Midwest where you have to be in the top 6 of 40 teams to guarantee your spot.

I followed UT to regionals this weekend and the collegiate scene certainly has it right with entire teams standing up and cheering every skier of theirs who touches the water. UT even cheered for me in the officials tournament even though my scores don't mean anything for their team placement. The more of that we can bring into post collegiate skiing the better off we will be.

  6. I would agree, if 70 is too cold then I have spent the majority of my life skiing in something that is below too cold. I've skied with rolly water and visually it can definitely screw with your head as you come into a buoy but it's just one of many things we have to deal with in this sport. I would love it if we could ski on endless glass but that just isn't the nature of the sport.
  7. Conditions can certainly impact the end result and it is unfortunate if you have highly variable conditions but at the end of the day you need to expect that. When you register for a tournament you do so understanding that this is an outdoor sport and mother nature will do what she will. If you can't come to play regardless of conditions then you yield advantage to the rest of the field. You always prefer glass but you need to be prepared to throw down in a 20mph wind while it's snowing and the sun is in your eyes.
