  1. I should probably say there is no air travel required. I'm an air traffic controller. I literally need the airport or a tracon (terminal enroute control) nearby. I like dallas because the facility is great, the people are great, and there is apparently quite the ski community. I have friends in Daytona, facility is good, but not as good as Dallas. Norcal has a GREAT facility. I will not be selling my place out here, I have a strange habit of collecting rental houses as I've moved around the country...
  2. Come on out to Southern California. I'll tow you any day! I skied today, air was chilly... 67.. water was nice.. about 64. Nobody out there... glassy as can be.
  3. @jordan, agree with 6balls, that is a fantastic prostar
  4. Wow, I went out for a few turns and look at what this has become... @richarddoane - I lived in Alaska for 4 years... decent means no snow on the ground for an extended period of time. @estrom - a bit out of my price range. However, BOS'ers can always come ski with me. @Chuck_Dickey - There are lakes in AZ? J/K... wife has declared no AZ for us. @OB and @SkiJay - I can go to Daytona... maybe Orlando. how's the skiing? @klindy - That is a great post. Tons of good info! Dallas is way up on my list. @douglaslbrady - How's nashville? I know nothing of the area. Where are some good ski lakes around there? @gginco and @ms - too cold. lol @jipster43 - Boise has too much snow for my liking... This is incredible, thank you all. I owe you all a tow or two
  5. If you were able to pick the best place to ski, year round, where would it be and why? Let me explain why I'm asking this question. With my job, I have the opportunity to choose where I work. Granted there are some restrictions, I can't just live out in the sticks with no major airport around. It's gotta be close to a good size airport.... I'm looking to move out of Southern California, not that it's a bad place to live, just looking for something different. Currently on the table... Sacramento - Great facility up there for me. 2 hours to tahoe for my "off season" activities. Folsom lake for the family and family to come. Sac river and a bunch of other ski places. Know of any ski lakes to live on? Dallas - Incredible Facility for me.. No wintertime activities close by so that's a downer. Able to live on a lake and have a "reasonable commute" to work. That's a big plus. Snakes in the water... downer. Daytona - Good Facility. Lots of water accessible. Live on a body of water.... probably salty... damn. So now that I have those on the table... I'm looking to add more. Where in the US would you move to be able to maximize your skiing, has a reasonable cost of living, and decent weather year round?
  6. Hey that's me :) Best 2 deals I've ever made on a boat.... 1999 Ski Nautique Closed Bow. 1002 hours. GT-40 engine. Not the biggest fan of the tower, but for the price of $3500 I couldn't turn it down. http://www.planetnautique.com/vb3/attachment.php?attachmentid=19433&d=1349231131 1974 Cee Bee Avenger. Evinrude 140. "Didn't Run" when I got it, but a new battery and plug wires later... she's a steady pull and will yank your shoulders out if you let her loose. $90 for the battery, and another $500 in the ski pole and new floors. So.... $590... call it $600? For the saltwater around the block from me, she works like a dream... (I need to get a photo of her in the water...) http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/Removeb4flight/d32616b9.jpg
  7. Hmmm, this is sounding better... I like the traction pad idea... I like the gelcoat repair idea... time to get creative. I "dabble" in Aerospace Engineering.... What I think is happening is the following... please excuse the crude drawings, it's late, and I'd rather be skiing...
  8. Ok, I agree the tower needs to go. The wife can get over it... maybe I'll buy her a boom... Now comes the hard part... filling the holes for the tower... should I just make a plate for it? Here's what I'm dealing with http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/Removeb4flight/D4C4E46B-9976-4924-8A4F-E4A8406ED85D-10331-00000A59F7CE7BE3_zpse45e6624.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/Removeb4flight/05C68611-2DBA-4536-89FE-E92C3C471D63-10331-00000A59FE779155_zpsbfcc6501.jpg I was thinking about having an aluminum plate made for it... but have no idea who to talk to about it. I ski behind a 93 SNCB...and a 74 avenger barefoot queen
  9. Wow, lots of great info here! Sorry I didn't include more information. The prop is the original 4 blade OJ 14x16 cupped (I think...) I can check again, but I believe I'm running around 3600 rpm at ski speed. I usually have 3 people total in the boat, when one is skiing, there are only 2... 180 or less on each. http://www.planetnautique.com/vb3/attachment.php?attachmentid=19433&d=1349231131
  10. I have a new to me 1999 Nautique, closed bow. I've been shortening up the rope lately getting more comfortable behind the boat, but I've noticed that the wake at 15 and 22 off seems actually really large. Granted I've been skiing behind a super light, super flat boat for the last few months. I ski at 34-36, and the bump is very noticeable at 15-22off with the nautique. I also ski behind a 93 Nautique, and the wake there is very flat. Is there something I'm missing? This one has a tower, which I hate, but makes the wife happy. Can a tower effect the wake that much? Thanks
  11. I too am looking for spots to ski. I'm back in Socal after a brief stint in Alaska. A couple options for you.... I have a 99 Nautique that I take out to Elsinore, Perris, or wherever else I can manage to find flat water. Granted it's hard to find a course, but I'm always looking for a third. Option 2.... Waterski Wednesdays... I throw my 1974 Avenger in Marine Stadium and rip up the mornings with passes. Water is super flat, no people, lots of good turns.... granted it's salty and no buoys, but it's still fun. I would love to find a group of people to ski with out at a private lake, it'd be nice to turn buoys again....
