  1. Love #2, boy that goes for every sport! But then you sort of contradict it in #3. That being said per #7 where do I find the stock numbers for my CDX? HO doesn't seem to have anything on their site.
  2. Hey Ed, did you fly the BD5J for the Bond flick or was that someone else? Back on topic, if it's economics that is driving electric, it's doomed. If everyone buys electric cars, the price of electricity will go way up, IMHO. Until non fossil generated electricty (nuclear is the most likely) is the bulk of the electricity, electric vehicles make no sense. I still love the electric boat for other reasons though, (and cars for that matter) because you can "fill up" by plugging it in at home. for the weekend skier, it's still cool. I think conversion kits make more sense than buying a whole new boat though.
  3. Another issue for me at least is skiing at the club compared to the cottage. At the club I've got drivers that drive hours a day for really good skiers, but I just bought a "proper boat" (Supra) for the cottage, and none of my drivers have any experience pulling skiers with such a boat. I'm a bit concerned that getting up as a beginner in double boots requires a bit better driver than with an RTP. I guess I'll find out in the spring.
  4. Very interesting. I am new to the course this year. Best is 3@-15 30MPH so I am by all accounts a beginner. I've been a cottage skiier for 40 years, and this year I committed to learning how to ski properly. Once I started in the course, my instructor told me I needed a better ski (I was on a Connelly HP) so I bought a used CDX with Animals. When I mentioned to my instructor that many of the top pros were on RTP his answer was that all those guys have had their scary crashes and basically I needed the rear boot to keep me from getting hurt during a crash with one foot out of the boot. If I could go back to a RTP I'd love it. I still miss about 1 in 10 deep water starts with that friggin' two feet in start. So the question is, at my level, would it be a bad idea to go back to a RTP?
  5. Liquid d, are you saying you've skied behind the electric?
  6. Chef23 said "For skiers skiing 15-22 off and particularly at slower speeds it would make a big difference in a round if different boats were used." I'm a 15 off skier and I've only skied behind 2 different boats so far. But they're both late model Nautiques so I doubt I'd know the difference. Firstly, I'm really new to this (started late Aug and got hurt, minor, but enough to end my season in early Oct.) So my PB is 3 @15 off 48kph. I certainly don't expect to be any kind of aficionado on boats, so I was surprised by the above comment. Why would it matter more at slower speeds and longer lines?
  7. This is a very new obsession for me, I've been a cottage skiier my whole life, but I only got into the course in late August of this year. I've always loved to ski, but not the way I do now. I live 10 minutes from the McClintocks ski school, and I decided to take some lessons on a whim, big mistake, now I am obsessed. I bought a boat to practice behind at the cottage, (old Supra) and I'm pining to get back on the water in the spring. So to be fair I've never been on Maui with a proper obsession. @Jipster, the name is very familiar (that may be because I've been in his gallery or because it's also the name of the author of a book on Samurai history I have), but I don't know him, . I'm familiar with most of the names who are regulars on the North Shore, although I don't know any of them personally, I don't think he is any longer among them. Back to the skiing bit, Maui is a magical place for me, but the ocean for me is all about surf, calm days are pretty much unheard of, (waves in the winter, wind in the summer) and there's no inland water, (well none that you would be allowed to put a boat in anyway) so a slalom course would be out of place there IMHO. There might be someone out there who would be willing to take you tow in surfing on a small day, dunno, but it has occurred to me, and would be for a skiier the quickest way to get into surfing.
  8. When in Rome... I love skiing, but I'm much better on a windsurfer than I am on a slalom ski. I've been wave sailing nearly every year for over 20 years on Maui, and I know the place well. I've mountain biked, scuba, surfed, hiked, and road biked. I love the big water, but I've never been sitting around going, wow what this place needs is a slalom course! Just simply the wrong place to ski. I won't bother with kites myself, but for sure, if you've got any wake board experience, take a kite board lesson.
  9. I for one love it. Not for the ski club or the tournament, but for private use, it would be excellent. No smoke no noise, you could probably talk to your skier! No gas cans. How do you winterise and electric motor? For guys like me who only use the boat on weekends, you could charge it on very small solar panels during the week, The real deal killer for me is though, is the short run time. On those rare occasions that you have a group out for a day on the water, you're screwed. Plug in hybrid anyone? On the down side, what most people dont't realize is that approx 70% of the US electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels, and transmission of electricity is only about 10% efficient, So until those numbers change, you aren't doing anything for the environment by going electric anything.

I think it still looks like the CIPA extreme for me. Even the the cheaper version of the VR100 will still need a mount purchased separately (I think) On the ski front, I have been cruising skiitagain, but because I'm in Canada, the shipping on things like skis pretty much kills the savings. We have Kijiji which is similar to Craigslist, and I'm keeping an eye for combos and such. I think for the amount of use they'll get, any half decent combo set will do, but I would like to get a slalom ski that would be enjoyable to use for the more experienced skiiers, somthing like the Connelly HP This should really have it's own thread, but what do you guys think about older tournament skis (like this; http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAwMFg2NjY=/$T2eC16dHJHgE9n0yHB0pBQiBd6Chfg~~48_20.JPG as an all purpose guest slalom?

Cool, I really like the mirror, I don't know how it works, but you can actually see your skier from outside the course! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51bnNLecG-L.jpg

Inboardfix, I'm always trying to support the local shop, so if I go with the PTM, I'll drop you a PM. Now that I'm adding up all the stuff I need to buy, I'm not sure my mirror budget may be up to $200. It never occurred to me that I'd need to buy things like wake boards and combo skis etc, but if I want everyone to have fun I should. I have no problem letting someone else use my ski, but it may be a bit too much for my buddies unless I get a toe plate for it, so I need a good mid level slalom ski, which I was hoping would be available with a good combo set. The good news is I have all winter to accumulate this stuff. Cheers

Hi Guys I'm new here, been lurking for a while. Late this summer I began the transition from cottage skier to course skier. I'm getting instruction and ski time at McClintocks Ski School. Anyhow, I'm so smitten that I bought a boat to practice with when I'm at the cottage, it's nothing special but it is a proper ski boat (Supra Rider). I'm looking for advice on a Mirror for it. The Rider is an open bow so it's got the 3 piece wind shield. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also if anyone would suggest a good combo set for guests, I'd appreciate that as well. Cheers Chris
