  1. Hey Ball of Spray community, I am not sure if any of you have seen this story yet, but although it doesnt have much to do with tournament skiing, it is someone who seems to share the same passion as us! I thought you guys-gals might be interested in the article, and/or the gofundme page. note - I do not know Kevin or his family, just thought it was a very unfortunate freak accident from someone with a similar passion! Article here "Breen said he hopes to receive prosthetic limbs. And while the coming months may be marked by uncertainly, there's one thing he knows he wants to do. “I'd like to be able to water ski again,” he said. “That was a huge passion of mine. I may not be able to do it at the same level, but just getting out there would be special.”"
  2. @Alberto Soares, I am moving down to Monterrey in January for a year for business! Any chance that contact of yours is still down there? I would love to be able to have the opportunity to do something "comfortable and relate-able" while being in this new culture & location. Definitely know how to compensate boat hours and liquids! Que tenga una buena noche! Gracias. -Drew
  3. @michaelgoodman @chef23 & @‌rayn Thank you for reaching out! As I discuss vacation plans with the lovely lady, and we begin to decide on things we want to do, I will direct message you guys and see if we cant set something up! I love skiing on new lakes and look forward to the possibility of doing so on the east coast with you guys!
  4. Ballers, Anyone know of a location to ski in Boston? Going there for vacation in July for the first time and would love to get a pull! Looked on wakescout, but it had nothing. Any information would be much appreciated! -Drewski
  5. Its seems right that there would be a lot of cross over between the snow and summer sports, however it always seemed hard to translate that similarity when on 2 skis on snow and not ever learning the true snow slalom technique. That is until I watched this clip from the New York Times. It is worth your time, trust me. Dont forget to scroll down the page (thats how you get it to move on to the next segment). You can really see the cross functionality here. http://www.nytimes.com/newsgraphics/2014/sochi-olympics/giant-slalom.html
  6. Knees Trees Freeeeeze! The biggest thing will be to stay on your toes. Its nerve racking because you think you will go forward but think about jumping off a picnic table. You land on your toes (ball of feet) and can keep walking forward. If you land on your heels, you tend to roll backward into the picnic table. This is what helped me land my first jump. The feeling from water to hard stiff jump is really strange the first time and you have to keep everything in your core tight to hold your position. Hope this helps! Post a video when you do it.
  7. 4 of my best friends made through waterski.
  8. @skier2788 Start at about 2:45 to get the jist of it. Pretty neat - using the cave to wakeboard in.
  9. I remember waterski mag posting an article about 7 or 8 years ago on a college engineer (waterskier) who designed a partially indoor stadium on CAD for one of his classes. It was really interesting. Anyone else remember this article or have a link to it?
  10. This is all I know as far as pricing goes. I have been fortunate to join clubs and have ski buddies to ski, but it is a pretty penny for sure. Especially if you want to ski multiple times a week. @MISkier I do know that waterskiing has never been bigger in the Collegiate scene and it is fun to introduce new people to the sport. Jodi Fisher is doing a great job collecting old equipment with his program "Ski it Forward" - to distribute it out to collegiate ski teams and other people who dont have up to date or proper equipment. Just something to think about as we all have had great experiences and are lucky enough to still be skiing!
  11. Ballers, Good afternoon. As this morning marks the first snow fall here in Ohio, I am already dreaming about getting back on the water. With that in mind, I wanted to extend a discussion about different types of off season work outs. As we all know, no matter how much training we do during the winter, the first part of the season will undoubtedly be sore. For me, I have fell in love with Rock Climbing during the off season as I found it works a lot of the same muscles as water skiing. However, my new living location does not offer an indoor rock wall, and therefore need to find something else to do. I am not a free weight slamming gym rat, but enjoy body weight, balance, and cross fit type workouts. A solid applicable exercise I have found is described here: http://www.waterskimag.com/features/2012/01/20/water-ski-preseason-body-building/ What do other ballers like to do to stay in shape and keep yourself occupied during hibernation?
  12. @scuppers - thanks a lot man. I appreciate that. Also, @than_bogan .... thanks man haha.
  13. @colo_skier Im not sure what the EZfin tool is as I have never used it but I did have the realization that if I just use the needle end of the calipers the lip on the base of the calipers helps to hold the end of the ski making the measurement really easy and repeatable. As for the wing (scag as I like to call it), I understand its preference, just like most things on the sky but when you flip it, how does that affect performance?
  14. So I know this is an old thread but I was hoping you guys could help out with a couple questions I had after following Goode's instructions. 1. Does having the wing upside (as shown in Goode's pic) differ in performance compared to flipping it opposite (right side up - screws below wing)? I know angle is what dictates performance but does that added depth do anything? 2. When measuring the distance to tail, do you measure to the bottom or top of the ski? Because mine has a pretty good chamfer on it and when measuring from the fin to the back of the ski on the bottom side, its very hard to get a good definite measurement as you have to eyeball the end of the ski. Any thoughts? Thanks ballers!
  15. Love the video. Nothing beats a collegiate tournament! Get out and support!
  16. Good afternoon ballers! I apologize if something like this thread has been created already, however I could not find one like it. As I make more and more ski acquaintances along with members joining our club, the more newbies that I meet. As the eager skiers get up on combos to show us what they have, I am wondering what the baller's perspective is on the progression from combo skiing. How confident and capable should a skier be before attempting slalom? I am a big advocate on consistency and fundamentals, so what type of keys do you look for that say a skier is ready? And do you go straight to deep water starts on slalom or have them kick a ski off to get the feel of riding on one? Thanks guys!
  17. Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! A lot of time was put into making the movie (and into making the year we had too) and our movie editor really appreciates the recognition. @texas6, he used Apple Final Cut Pro for the editing. Here's the website: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/
  18. @chuck_dickey - great boat! Thats what we ski behind. As far as every set wipe downs go - does anyone use a wax/vinegar mixture to help cut through the hard water spots? I have been told to use half vinegar and half wax as you dry in a spray bottle after every use. Also heard lime away does the trick too. Any thoughts on this?
  19. Ballers! As the year comes to a close, the Miami Waterski team wanted to make a video to highlight the past year. It was our first trip to the collegiate nationals tournament and our best year ever as a team! Below is the link to the video. Hopefully it will give you 30 minutes of enjoyment and bring back some memories!
  20. Nates killing it right now. When I skiid with him right before Moomba, he said hes gotten 3 @43 in practice, so I wouldnt be surprised to see that broken by the end of the year by the kid whose skiid the most 41s in recent memory!
  21. A little edgy, yes, but that is normal uniform attire for women in our sport and at any lake in general. Should it be a requirement to wear boardshorts if bikini's are too much? Also, with a respected pro repping 69Slam within the ski community, I would guess their presence is only going to grow from here. Plus, same concept in these pics for TransWorld...
  22. Check your grip. For RFF put left palm up. And slow the boat down a mile or 2. Also, according to Lucky, you can run the course into 28' off with 2 hands (definitely old school but still...) so I wouldnt worry about one hand turns yet. That will just add an extra layer of complexity for running the course.
  23. Thank you guys very much for the help! I will email or message you shortly, as soon as I figure out our financial situation. Thanks again.
  24. Hey ballers, The Miami University Water Ski team is looking to purchase a jump switch and possibly a jump sling. As you probably know, we are on a budget and were hoping to find them used that somebody doesnt use anymore. Anyone have any help or know of someone selling? Thanks!
