2 different skiers on Hovercraft Ski behind a pontoon with 75 hp Mercury.  25 MPH.  New Years Day....water 38...air 38. 

New Years Water Ski today on Sweetwater Lake in southern Indiana.  Water 38, Air 38.  Happy New Year to all.  To Cnewbert...keep skiing.!  I'm 77 with a new knew in 2023.  

 

To use rawly's response....I thing BrennanKMN....offered the most simple solution to the issue.  Thanks to all who responded.  What a great site for water skiers and boat owners!

The hour meter on our 2009 Nautique 196 reached 999 this past week.  The hour meter is original and is a window on the larger tachometer.  Can this gauge be reset?  What are my other  options?  Have a separate hour meter unit installed on the motor?  Have a complete new gauge/tach installed?  The boat is a club boat with several drivers and users so it is important to keep track of the hours for oil changes and service intervals.

How about a pair of these!   I'm sure....1950's!!!

He was the "top dog" at the recent Sawmill Tournament in Columbus, Indiana.  Whole family was skiing!  Always displays the most welcoming personality.

I've owned 4 Mastercrafts over the past18 years!  The fuel gauges were a mystery to me.  The 2021 that I have now seems to be the most accurate.  I do not use the "fuel management" option...just the regular percent of fuel in the tank.  And...for reassurance, I just lift up the middle step in the rear and look at the fuel level in the tank to be sure!

I certainly appreciate the information about Chubb Insurance notice.   I double checked mine this morning.  It was renewed in September of 2022 and I carefully read through each page especially the "exclusions."  I did not see any notice about not covering sanctioned events.   I'll be looking for a new carrier when this September roles around.

 

Being a member of the "geriatric generation skiers,"  I have several friends skiing with replaced hips with no issues at all!  Perhaps a few more months will help.....Keep Skiing!  Good Luck

I am encouraged by the responses for this topic.  I'm presently recovering from full knee replacement on January 9th.  Have been doing the therapy with a professional and at home which is no "picnic!"  Therapist tells me I'm doing great. Started back on upper body machines this week and swimming laps.   I know I'm motivated!   I'm walking and doing steps with no issue.  Some degree of discomfort at night.  I'm no spring chicken but am in decent physical condition.   The elephant in the room is will I be able to water ski and snow ski again.  I think/am hoping to at least do recreational water skiing later this summer.  Competition may be out.....we will see!   I appreciated all the comments.

Thanks MlSkier for correct year.  Even though I thought those modes were beautiful and simple, I'd hate trying to keep it clean and cool in the hot sun!

A few years ago, Maybe 2017, Mastercraft put out a couple of special edition Prostars.  They were black with gold fleck accents and had black interiors also and they were beautiful!  (the black interiors were supposed to be heat resistant)    I had a black prostar back in the day.....water spots galore!   Amazing to see the "come bac" of metal flake.  Oh yes,  I joined the flock and bought a '21 prostar with metalflake!

I learned to water ski in 1957 behind a fiberglass Crosby w/40 HP Mercury. Am still at it but with updated boat! Celebrated 100 years of water skiing yesterday at Brewski Lake in Indianapolis doing the "Get on the Water" program sponsored by USA Water Ski and Radar Skis. Taught 3 new skiers how to water ski plus several experienced skiers enjoy the anniversary.

 

I had to do just the opposite! I skied coming up on one leg for 60 years! I learned that way skiing early in my career behind 40 hp outboard motors! It was easier and quicker and less drag to come up on one leg. I started having issues with hamstring cramps at night and even pulled the hamstring a couple of times so decided to put on my big boy pants and learned to come up with both feet in. I've done it now for a couple of years and still not comfortable with it but......no more hamstring cramps or pulled hamstrings. You can teach an old dog new tricks! (Mens 9 Skier)

I sold my 2015 Mastercraft in mid July and took delivery of the '21 in September. The 2015 served me royally but the '21 really shines. I ordered it in August of '20 and my friend used it as a promo boat for the '21 season. Got a great deal and it had 50 hours on it at delivery. Every time we use it, my friends jump in and I never get to drive it! It tracks better, it feels more solid, the driver's seat is heaven, the user friendly screen is terrific! It was worth the wait! In reading earlier posts, I haven't figured out the gas management system....I just lift up the back panel and look/see how much gas is in the tank! Kind of reminds me of Chris Craft days when we kept a yard stick on board and measure by wet marks on the stick! Incidentally, I've owned all 3 major makes over the years and this one is the best!

I just graduated into Men's 9. My maximum legal speed is now 30 MPH. I can still run some decent passes at 32 MPH. Strange as it seems.......I can run the -15, -22, and 4/5 @-28 at 30 MPH or....-15, -22, and a couple at -28 at 32 MPH. The last tournament of the season is this weekend. I should be asking USA Water Ski but only think to ask at night!

Just attended a Class C tournament at Silent Shores in Thorntown, Indiana. They always advertise a "grassroots" section." We had 7 grassroots skiers who were guaranteed 4 passes for each round. Two brothers were competing against each other. One mature skier participated by skiing the course for second time this past summer.....he was all smiles. All of the grassroots skiers stated that they enjoyed watching the more accomplished skiers between each round. Grassroots level events and our "Monday Night Ski Leagues" are always well attended.

 

Yup! Probably ruptured ear drum. Everyone is giving you good advice....take it....see a doctor immediately and get the anti biotic drops! I ruptured mine on July 3rd. Was taking a lesson from Noah Vieke. Had a yard sale on my opener and hit the water hard on my right ear. I knew before surfacing I had done a number on my ear. Put all my stuff back on and finished the lesson (get back on the horse!) and on my way home stopped at immediate care and verified ruptured ear drum. Got prescription for ear drops. (I did my ear drum decades ago and remember it got infected...not fun!) I got back on the ski a week or so later with ear plugs. (soft moldable ones at CVS seemed the best for me) Took about a month or 5 weeks for all to get back to normal. (I'm old and probably have longer recovery period than you) Go to doctor/Get the drips!

I don't know about declining numbers! The Mid West Regionals wrapped up today with a larger number of skier than in the past 2 years. An earlier post stated that the Regionals were a social event. I have to agree as I got to see and talk to many mid westerners that I've seen over the past few years. Perhaps the central mid west location for the Liquid Edge Mid West Regionals was one reason for increased attendance. One of the most exciting events was the Open Mens on Saturday. Nate Smith and Cale Burdick fought it out with Nate finishing on the top step. More interesting was the history shared by these two top notch people...they both began their skiing careers together on little Champion Lake in McCordsville, Indiana. Cale has since become a Michigan resident but still has "Hoosier" roots and sometimes skis Indiana tournaments. "Go Hoosiers" at NationalsQ

The Missouri Disabled Water Ski Association sponsors events each summer. The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis operates a 2 day event each summer in June. Very rewarding experience to help with these events.

 

Thanks for the information from all. I first thought it was the rope or shock tube issues but my strong ski buddy grabbed ahold of the pylon yesterday and was able to produce the "clicking" although we couldn't see any movement of the pylon. Thanks again for everyone's replies ....even Thager!

Our club boat (2009 196) pylon has started "clicking." The harder the skier pulls the more it clicks. I do not see the pylon moving but am assuming the 4 nuts at the bottom of the pylon need tightening. Anyone else have this issue and/or solutions?
