Congrats Sergeant Friendly, probably the best job in the department.  Go too farther up, the less policework you get to do.  Sergeant is perfect, actually Detective Sergeant is perfect!

Officer Friendly, I know you will remember to be a leader and trust your subordinates and they will make you proud. Don't be a micro manager or they will hate you. Higher rank does not make you smarter although some may disagree. I have seen some absolute mismangement and stupidity in my years and I have worked for some outstanding leaders (not supervisors, there is a difference). Don't be that guy you always hated. Be the guy you looked up to.
