 I purchased this item as a surprize as an anniversary gift for my husband.  Unknown to me, he really wanted a new ski.  As not to hurt my feelings, he used the jacket twice while I was at the lake and promptly placed it (hid it) in his closet.  One of his ski partners (our grown daughter) shared with me that he had really wanted a new ski, so I am trying to sell this to generate funds to put towards getting him what he really wanted:  A New Ski.

Has anyone who has not plunked down 500 for this thing tried it? I dont want to here from someone who has buyers remorse and wants me to blow my money so they can feel good about it.

Thats my point. If I dropped 50K on a Malibu I would tell you its a good boat. That is only hoping you will spend 50k on the same pile of crap so I am not the only guy out there with the pile of crap. Kinda like how everyone loved the latest Ski invented and half this board bought them. I dont think I saw a bad review, but I also dont think many are left skiing on it today.

No, I really would like to try the vest as the last 2 summers have been shortened by bad back. But trying to get a good review from some one who dropped 600 will be impossible. I dont think you can send it back if you dont like it.

I did not mention Elite, but Mapple could run 41 on a snowboard.

As this is my posting, I thought I should elaborate on what I have surmised in discussing this issue with my husband.  Obviously, after I spent $590 on this item, for him to only use it twice, I wanted to know why.

First the positive aspects: 

(1)  Depending on how you adjust the arm straps, you can accelerate like a rocket;

(2) You can do an unlimited number of passes per set.  The time my husband used it, he did over twenty-four passes per set and still was not tired (with the exception of his legs).  Mind you he is sixty-two years old and usually only does ten passes per set due to fatigue. 

(3) If you suffer from back pain at all, this is the ultimate answer.

As for the negative:

The only negative aspect I can address is the fact that since my husband weighs 235 lbs and skis on a 66 inch ski, he gets excessively pulled forward when coming out of the water, causing the vest to pinch him on the left hand side.  He wants to a 68-69 inch ski, which is what we are going to use the proceeds from the sale of the PowerVest towards.

It is true that there are no return policies on the PowerVest, which is why we are offering this one for $115 less than we paid (not including the expense we are going to incur for the out-of-pocket free shipping we are offering).

For those wondering about the sizing, my husband wear a XL in HO life vest, so I would say that this vest runs true to size.  The back from end to end is approximately 23.5 inches.  It is fully adjustable.

this is the first that ive heard of a powervest. I watched some videos that goode has put on youtube about it, is anyone else out there think that this could be considered cheating, i mean it sounds like your arms really don't have to do any work while wearing this thing, or your back. I personally wouldn't want to compete against someone who is wearing it, as it would give that person an unfair advantage, especially when doing multiple passes.

I can't believe he runs 10 passes at 235 lbs, 62 years old and on a 66" ski.  The guy is my hero.  I weigh 235 and I am not sure I could run 3 passes on a 66" ski.  OldSkiersWife rocks also.  Great gift even if it wasn't exactly what he wanted.

I see how the powervest can help you ski more by making it easier on your back and arms. But don't your legs get tired after 12 passes? I am 27 years old and in great shape. I weigh 170 lbs and ride a 66" ski. I will occasionally ski a 10-12 pass set but my legs are rubber when I get out of the water. I run into 38' off everyday at practice. I ski with a guy named Mongo who is 60 years old and runs 38' off fairly consistently and I consider him an absolute freak but he never makes it passed 8 -10 passes? What kind of line lengths is your husband running to be able to ski that many passes?

Sorry for the thread hack.

Mongo's power vest comes in the form of all that tape on his hands. I think he is taped to the handle and it runs down to his bindings some how. The man has incredable power.

Prior to me responding to this, I am not a skier -- just the wife of a skier and the Mom of a skier that went to wakeboarding and is now back on the water slalom skiing with her dad while she finishes up school.  After fifteen years of driving the boat, I was happy when we moved to a private lake in Orlando that allows for him to have a tournament level driver as a ski partner. 

For years he did two (six pass sets), mostly due to the restrictions of the place he skied and the club restrictions. Now, that we live lakefront, he does one (ten to twelve pass set) 3 times a week.  He finds it more beneficial.  He starts at 32 or 35 dependent on the weather and runs up the rope as far as he can get.  His best is 3 @41, which is our lake record.  However, he only did that once.  He always drops back to 38 and works on technique.  For example, it took him two years to perfect a gate that puts him within two to six inches of the gate buoy 98% of the time. 

Heather and I are hopeful that he will start competing, but we know that he will not due it until he is consistent in his passes.  As for gift giving, after all the years of traveling to wakeboard tournaments (both in the USA and abroad), I am most happy staying at home and giving my hubby what he wants (ski gear) to use on what he loves (skiing): Did I mention that it also keeps him out of my hair -- LOL.

So, please spread the word about the PowerVest so that I can get him a larger ski.  I have also posted it on Ski-It-Again, but am having problems posting it to The Waterski Forum.  If any of you visit that site, will you please consider posting a notice for me?

66" ski is a wide ride I would guess.

66" at 235 be up to his knees in the turns unless it was wide/shaped...

my brother and i rigged a sliding rope system as a slalom harness for fun years ago. when the powervest came out i revised that harness to use a sliding bungee cord. in this way the more you move your hands away from your body, the more load is transferred directly to your hips - where it should go. and full reach is marginally restricted.

we used it a lot at the lake for: spring training and learning counter rotation, skiing when your back needs a break; setting up skis and running more sets than usual.

the FM waist harness adds some safety too since it's very hard to lose the rope and get over the front. inexpensive at $90 (mostly shop time) but they are so simple you can make your own easily as some skiers have done already.

What kind of ski is your husband skiing on now?

If your husband can run 3@41 on the current ski he is on, then he may want to re-consider getting rid of it considering the national record is 3.5@41.

MS the only review I have heard about the Powervest was from Bink, he said it was very akward and he struggled to get through 32' using it.

If bink cant make 32 then the vest is bad. Bink should be able to run 32 with the vest on his feet.

Man, if I were in my 60's and could run 3 @ 41, I would most certainly be marketing myself. I'm sure one of the ski co's out there would Love, Love, Love that kind of Marketing campaign, exposure &  publicity!

My promo would start with me standing there next to my ski and saying something like: "My Best years are behind me, -but skydiving Bores me"... Then the Video would cut me raising some Hell @ -38, 39.5 and 41!!!

I'm talkin' about "Free" ski's, Gloves, vests, ropes...  Ahh, what the heck boat sells are off right now. So, they could probably use the help as well!   -"I couldn't do what I do, without my Malibu"...
