Baller Andy Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 How much should the average guy expect to pay below MSRP on a new boat?
Baller Chef23 Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 This seems to be a secret. It isn't like the auto industry. MSRP and out the door price seems to be a secret for ski boats.
Baller ForrestGump Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 Depends on the manufacturer and the area you live in. MSRP is all over the place, markup wise. Pricing is all over the place. A dealer in one city might sell at 15% over invoice and 200 miles away a dealer might sell at MSRP.
Baller Chef23 Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 @ShaneH I understand that street price could be all over the place due to market demand in different places but MSRP should be the same because it is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. It seems to me that should be the same everywhere.
Baller_ MISkier Posted September 11, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted September 11, 2013 Where do you find MSRP? I can't recall seeing it published on the manufacturer websites. I think even their "Build Your Own" doesn't really generate a "window sticker". For that part, I seem to recall they referred you to your local dealer for pricing. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.

Baller The_MS Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 Look at the price of a promo boat and that is what your boat is worth after you drive it off the lot.
Baller ForrestGump Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 @Chef23 Yes, MSRP doesn't change. But since MSRP is an arbitrary number set by the individual manufacturers, you can't say across the board "xx% off of MSRP". The big 4 don't get together and say MSRP is going to be 40% over cost to dealers.
Baller Chef23 Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 @ShaneH Mastercraft for example could set MSRP for its boats as cold Malibu, Nautique and Centurion with each dealer independently setting MSRP for their line of boats. I can go online and see what MSRP is for a Ford, Chevrolet or BMW. Unless something has changed I can't do that for a ski boat and I don't get why. I understand that the different manufacturers might have different margins for their products and even for different boats in the line but I don't get why a MSRP is such a mystery in the boating industry. Baller A_B Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 Based on my last new boat purchase, I'd say there was 10-20% discount in the MSRP to get to a final price. Depends on when you buy too, as my dealer had a big nut to crack by year end with orders, and was motivated to hit it. Not as bad as diamonds, but getting there.. Baller Not_The_Pug Posted September 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted September 11, 2013 I was on the Nautique site yesterday and it listed the MSRP for the boats. At lease the 200 CB & OB.
Baller Andy Posted September 14, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted September 14, 2013 I priced out a 200 OB pretty bare bones w a trailer. He itemized everything and showed the discount he was giving me, but I do wonder what his cost is.
