Baller enenon Posted April 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 14, 2014 My wife has been using her mom's ski forever (63" Jobe Open Class) and wants her own now. This ski is likely small for her but she knows and loves it so now I'm looking for suggestions on one for her. We don't ski alot (and all recreational, no competition) so probably don't want a premium ski. Any suggestions/advice? None of the places around us (Memphis-Pickwick, TN) demo skis. Thanks! Baller kfennell Posted April 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 14, 2014 buy a used d3 z7 off ski-it-again for like $100 and she will love it. Very forgiving and cheap but still a high end ski
Baller Skihack Posted April 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 14, 2014 There are no skis today that are even close to the Jobe in feel. I have found the Radars to feel similar. The Strada feels close. Most new skis are way flatter and are more stable.
Administrators Horton Posted April 14, 2014 Administrators Share Posted April 14, 2014 HO and Radar both make very good mid range ladies skis at a fair price Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Baller kmenard Posted April 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 14, 2014 The 2012 Radar Lyric comes to mind...you can get them at a pretty fair price if you look around.

Porkfight
I rode a 20+ yr old '67 Jobe Open Class until the front binding fell apart mid-carve two years ago. The '13 Radar Senate-C I bought to replace it feels much more aggressive. Lyric, Triumph, or equivalent non-carbon fiber skis from other companies would be a great replacement. Something a little wide would probably be most fun and still turn as well as or better than that old Jobe. My friend has an '06 or so Connelly F1X that feels very similar to my old Jobe in recreational open water conditions.
Baller enenon Posted April 26, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted April 26, 2014 I took KFennell's advice and bought a used D3 Z7 and it has some slight cracks around the mounts (see picture at link below). Is this something about which I should be worried? Administrators Horton Posted April 26, 2014 Administrators Share Posted April 26, 2014 I am not sure I would worry about it but that thing looks worked. The new Radar Senate C can be had for under $700 and is a better ski than that old Z7 Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Administrators Horton Posted April 26, 2014 Administrators Share Posted April 26, 2014 I totally support ski-it-again but anything you buy for under $500 is a questionable investment Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Baller enenon Posted April 28, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted April 28, 2014 So if I want to use the ski for 10 years I should be ok and those cracks are cosmetic and not structural? Thanks for all your help.
Administrators Horton Posted April 28, 2014 Administrators Share Posted April 28, 2014 @enenon I would assume the cracks are not structural.
