Nate's Quest

I was looking at some pics from the California Pro-Am. It appears that Nate is still skiing on the Quest and not the Quest 45. Can anyone confirm? If this is the case, I wonder why.....

Also, does he have some sort of plate under both bindings? Never mind. It's graphics on zoom in. Notice double screws on back of front plate. He rips some turns!

Because he runs 41 off on it? Besides, what a top sheet shows for a lot of pro skiers is not necessarily indicative of what's on the inside.

In the past Nate has shown an inclination to stick with the same ski for a good period of time, with little fin tinkering.

True @ShaneH But if D3 was wanting to sell the new 45, wouldn't they make the top sheet look like the 45, even if it wasn't? I know Nate stayed on his old X7 for years. Maybe this particular ski is his new favorite

That would mean a change to the ski or a whole new ski. Nate probably doesn't want to make that change.

I have it from an insider that he was on the Q45 with last year's top sheet for most of this year, and doesn't like to switch out of a ski that's working.

Whatever he was on yesterday, that was some of the most impressive skiing I have ever seen. He made -39 look like an opening pass. I was close to the 5 ball of his -41 pass (about 10 yards from Horton) and was amazed at how much easier -41 looked for him compared to his competitors. He looked good going into 5 and I was thinking I was going to get my first opportunity to see someone attempt -43, but in the turn all I could see was a wall of spray and then he was down. He said he just lost the handle. Regardless, it was amazing watching him and the other top skiers. Such incredible athleticism, but sad that so few people appreciate it. With such a small market to sell to it is surprising to me that the ski companies continue investing in developing better and better skis.

@skijay I heard what you did. He's staying on that ski because it's what worked for him when he was testing this spring.

That could be said for the majority of skiers, I think most of us could run within buoys of our pb on almost any top of the line ski. Other factors are consistency, feel, and of something isn't broken don't fix it.

 

If I were Nate, I'm not sure I'd switch either.
