@Moggie‌ first of all you have to realize that these kind of systems are common in auto racing. Those systems do all kinds of things that we don't need but the concept is the same.

From what I can figure out accelerometer data is actually more interesting than GPS data. If you had both and the software to interpret the data now you have something extremely interesting.

I've been Google-ing my butt off for a couple of years waiting for some hardware software package to come out. ShadowBox looked promising but went nowhere. Trace may be the solution and that would be extremely cool because I actually have a dialogue going with the co-founders. Xensr might be the solution. I don't know of anyone who has seen it I know they know are interested in water skiing. If all of these systems fail it's only a matter of time before somebody builds an action sports data logger that is useful for us

I spent the afternoon with David, one of the Co-founders of Trace. Dude is crazy smart and extremely nice. From what I can gather his hardware can do what we need and he cares about sports like water skiing . My fingers are crossed. Data to follow.

This is a first pass at Tace and iPhone video merge. There are clearly some issues but it is still very cool.

@Horton Very Cool. It appears that vid 1 and 3 are showing speed in the direction the ski is traveling. Nice - I think you peaked at 52 on strong side lean. It appears vid 2 is your speed in the direction of the boat, but lags the video slightly as you are equal to the boat 2/3 of the way out to the buoy instead of behind the boat when you have to be about equal. You showed as low as 23 right behind the boat, which I assume is because the speed indication is lagging the video. Still, very cool. A non-skier was just asking me yesterday what speed the ski hits when crossing the wakes. I guessed about 45-48. Since I don't ski as well as you, that might have been close.
