Baller skier2788 Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 There has been a couple of threads lately that have made me wonder if you could host an event what would it be? Pick your speed, wooden ski only, or triathlon style. I am curious as to what ballers would like or what events they love to go to each year.
TylerR Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 1.) Pick your ski/ any speed you want 2.)furthest jump on pre 1980's jumpers
Baller thager Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 I would like to see a hybrid ski tourney but the ski has to be all wood. Use any binding you like and an adjustable fin if you like. Pull would be with 1970's era boats.
Baller nzwaterski Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 Reverse slalom is fun. First pass at your normal start speed then boat slows for each successful pass until you fall or miss a buoy.
Baller skier2788 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Baller Posted October 30, 2014 @thager I would have agreed until I skied behind a 76 mastercraft this summer couldn't run a pass being hand driven. Ha! @nzwaterski I think reverse slalom would be fun. I ran a 21 mph pass after nate smith did it at 15. I couldn't go 15.
Baller Onside135 Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 If I could host an event it would be at the Playboy mansion. We could all ski the next day.

Baller Edbrazil Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 I would like to have a Ski Flying event, but done right this time. Proper site, and with the training and skiing rounds taking up a full week. Not sure about 45mph, though. Beyond that, I'd like to see an Olde Tyme event. 2-ski slalom. 2-ski tricks (one pass). Probably appropriate for the Hall of Fame weekend. Then, there is left-hand slalom, where #1 is on the other side. Chet Raley has such a course.
Sean Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Ski all three events on the same apparatus. Pick whatever you want, otherwise normal rules apply.
Baller_ lpskier Posted October 30, 2014 Baller_ Posted October 30, 2014 How about an F sanctioned, ability level organized slalom, catering to first time competitors, with a cheap entry fee and a tee shirt? Or how about a handicapped cash prize jumping tournament in a downtown location in a northeastern community other than Lake Placid? Oh wait... those are the tournaments my group is planning this year! Lpskier
Baller Kelvin Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 @lpskier, there's no reason your ability level slalom event couldn't be sanctioned as both F and C. With a Class C, the more established skiers will still come out to help with officiating, etc.
Baller ALPJr Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 A cross sport tourney. Similar to the John's Pond/Twin Lakes Iron Man tourneys which were ski / bike / ski. Or maybe ski / cross fit / ski. Just need other skills that skiers can do.
Baller skier2788 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Baller Posted October 30, 2014 @ALPJr I like that idea. I would like to see a team style tournament. Build a 5 man team every member has to compete in all three events. Whoever is best wins on title a handicapped score will provide another.
Baller rodltg2 Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 How about a relay. Ski one pass, get back in the boat switch with the driver and he skis one pass. Do this for six passes each. Winner is team with best total time for running 12 passes and most bouys
Baller skier2788 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Baller Posted October 30, 2014 @rodltg2 I could see using a reflex with rear toe as a huge advantage. :)
Baller Zman Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 Where is the entry form for @Onside135 's event?
Baller 6balls Posted October 30, 2014 Baller Posted October 30, 2014 Figure 8 barefoot tourney...simple shenanigans. I don't even foot much anymore but those tourneys were fun.
Baller_ lpskier Posted October 30, 2014 Baller_ Posted October 30, 2014 @Kelvin If I'm lucky, I won't have a lot of room for the regular skiers, and even if I do, I am going to play around with formats. The idea of this tournament is to have fun, experiment and see what works and see what gets new skiers interested. I'm not thinking that I want to run this event as anything that really looks like a class C. But we'll see... Lpskier
Baller Fatroll Posted October 31, 2014 Baller Posted October 31, 2014 Overall "Lake Rat" tournament. It would involve all forms of skiing/boarding along with a fishing derby (between sets), paddleboard racing, cornhole, etc with drunken water olympics (for 21 and over unless we did it in Canada) to end the day.
Baller Bill22 Posted October 31, 2014 Baller Posted October 31, 2014 Timberlake ski club has done a fun team event. Three skiers per team with handicap. Highest combined ball count advances to finals. I love the idea of having any event with a handicap. Everyone is skiing against their average. I hope they do this again soon. I was on vacation the last 2 times they ran this.
Baller Bill22 Posted October 31, 2014 Baller Posted October 31, 2014 @Edbrazil I thought last winter Gordon Rathbun advertized he was going to have a Left Hand slalom tournament?? Then I never saw any update of who won or any scores. http://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/10052/mapple-pro-am-challenge
