allycat
no wonder you don t see any of those boats around much in australia bugger that .the good thing about it is it helps the local boat makers with there ski boats at almost one third the price with the malibu response a bit dearer. Baller oldjeep Posted April 8, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2015 @Horton - isn't that around what MSRP is on a Prostar here? I'd never spend that kind of money on a slalom only boat. Here is one listed for 80K http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2015-Mastercraft-Prostar-102353273 And one for almost 100K USD http://www.onlyinboards.com/2015-Mastercraft-ProStar-for-sale-Lake-Geneva-Wisconsin-46525.aspx
Baller auskier Posted April 8, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2015 @allycat that would all be well and good if the aussie designed and built boats were half the boat that a big 3 boat is, but the fact is, they are 20 years behind a US designed boat. There is a simple reason that malibu in australia have around a 50% market share - they are simply better than anything else made here.

Baller swc5150 Posted April 8, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2015 One could come close to buying two '14 Prostar promos for that price too. Only the naïve or foolish pay anywhere near retail however.
Baller Bulldog Posted April 8, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2015 I have heard that Australia's import taxes were high but a 100K prostar is WAY out of line. I would be surprised if it actually sold for that. "Do Better..."

Baller rockdog Posted April 9, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 9, 2015 @ozski I like how the ad has pics of a new PROSTAR, the ad refers to a Prostar 197 (old) and the description is an X-series. supersonicus
Through the years I've seen that budget is extremely relative. What sounds like an out of site expensive slalom boat to most is literally chump change to some... Heck, they are selling 100k++ wakeboard boats by the dozens to families that are turning them over to their teenagers.
Baller 6balls Posted April 9, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 9, 2015 @supersonicus true...but I do wonder how so many have so much $$. I understand that there are some people who do extremely well...but these big dollar wake boats, the big dollar new cars, the big dollar homes seem incredible in sheer number to me. Baller oldjeep Posted April 9, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 9, 2015 @6balls - low down and long term loans. When I bought my boat last year the bank automatically assumed that I wanted to finance it for 20 years.

Baller Ilivetoski Posted April 9, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 9, 2015 @OB you always compare CP and 200 price points... Every time you do I go and look on SIA and can never find anything near your price. Baller 6balls Posted April 10, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 10, 2015 @OB agree buying top shelf stuff used/depreciated vs. lesser tier new is muy bueno both boat and auto. FracBurner
I'm with @OB. And I know first hand that the 2012 200 he mentioned on SIA is absolutely perfect. It has seen less sunshine and felt less humid air than most of us. AND the listing says "negotiable." Some of the asking prices are just there to frame the negotiation. Follow some eBay auctions and you'll see where the bids come in. Here's some food for thought. Baller Ilivetoski Posted April 10, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 10, 2015 @OB isnt the only fair way to evaluate this to compare year to year as far as cost and value go? Yes, you can get a used 200 cheaper (slightly) than a new CP. But you can also get a used Cadillac cheaper than a new Chevy. Also, when we were having our boat worked on, the mechanic told us that a ski boat engine properly maintained will last about 2000ish hours before it needs an overhaul. So by the time you put 700 hours on a 200 that cost you 41,000 its time to put another 8,000 into engine parts. That is from a certified MasterCraft mechanic. Now you have 49,000 (4,000 more than a new CP) into what you thought was a better value. I also know a lot of people, myself included, who prefer skiing behind the CP to the 200. Baller RAWSki Posted April 13, 2015 Baller Share Posted April 13, 2015 @OB Why not have a two different brand boats on your two club lakes? No denying that SN hold value and have a proven track record, however both CP and SN use the same engines, give great pulls and feel darn solid from the driver seat, I don't totally agree with your logic but I know you have taken a lot of falls over years....
