Baller nzwaterski Posted October 9, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 9, 2015 Has any one had experience with slalom skiing and driving these boats. Looking at buying one
Baller Ski63 Posted October 10, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 10, 2015 I have a 1996 pre2002wt. Been a great boat. Drives well and good to ski behind. The longer line wake certainly is bigger than what you will find behind newer boats. We also use a 2000 Response and that wake is much better at the longer lines. Guess it depends on what you are looking for in the boat
Baller nzwaterski Posted October 11, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted October 11, 2015 @Ski63 when you say bigger much bigger or typical of a mid 90s ski boat
Baller Jordan Posted October 11, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2015 Friend has one with the adjustable plate....wake is very hard....like hitting a cement curb.
Baller Ski63 Posted October 11, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2015 Typical of a mid 90s boat. I bought it new and remember that we all thought the wake was fantastic. It doesn't match up with the newer boats now. What year are you looking at? The TAPS plate (moveable plate) was started in 1996 and does make the wake a bit harder than a 1995 or earlier. But the plate is nice if you are on a bigger lake. You can "trim" it up a bit to get a better ride
Baller 6balls Posted October 11, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2015 '91 to '94 MC Prostar EFI (very, very good) or '97 onward Nautique 196 (excellent) are your best vintage slalom bargains.
Baller nzwaterski Posted October 12, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted October 12, 2015 Looking at a 96. Maybe if the plate was removed it might make it better. Think it's worth a look
Baller Ski63 Posted October 12, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2015 The plate is similar to the hull extension on lots of boats, it just has two hydraulic arms so that the plate can be adjusted from the boat. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for but I don't have any negative comments. My 1996 is still in great condition. Good luck
Baller Jordan Posted October 12, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2015 I don't think that removing the plate would make the slalom wake better...it is in the down position for slalom. My understanding is that they to removed the hook at the stern and the plate recreates the lift when pushed down. One thing we have noticed is that the wake is better for slalom (at least on his boat) when it's about 3/4 of the way down. YMMV
