Chris Taylor
So for the Midwest or at least northern skiers, which camaro would be the best choice. The full suit or shorty?
Baller Chef23 Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 Full. From a mobility perspective you don't give anything up so why not be warm.
Baller dbutcher Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 Full suit. The Camaro 2.0 Blacktech full suit is so comfortable and non-restrictive you forget you have it on. Yet you are warm with water in the 40's. There's no reason to wear a shorty and leave parts of your body exposed to the cold water.
Baller Than_Bogan Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 I found that Super Scrawny Ankles do not play well with the long suit, which tended to slowly get pushed up my leg (a little at each offside turn), until it was a rather ineffective version of the shorty anyhow! Chris Taylor
I won't have to worry about the scrawny ankles!
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 I have both and only use the long suit at 65 degrees and below. It is a little warmer than the shorty, but there is no restriction with either suit...Also have a $400 O'Neill that feels like something squeezing you to death..Very restrictive. Baller baja Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 @Than_Bogan as a fellow member of the Super Scrawny Ankles crew I use ankles straps made from Velcro One-Wrap. Super thin single tape with hook on one side and loop on the other. A 12 foot roll is under 10 bucks at HD. Cut and wrap and you don't care if you loose them. Work great for me on my BlackTec. So thin I don't feel them inside my Radar boots.
Baller Lieutenant Dan Posted January 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 18, 2016 @Than_Bogan I have the same issues with my Camaro long suit. I happened to look at a video of Nick Parsons earlier where it looks like he wraps cellophane (Saran wrap type) around the lower legs of his Camaro. I'm going to try that in the spring. Baller dbutcher Posted January 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 19, 2016 Saran wrap works great on ankles and wrists. I also use a spray leg on both legs just to protect the suit. Additionally, I use a strap at the ankle on my rear leg. And I use Saran wrap at the top of the spray legs to keep them from slipping down. It takes me 20 minutes to get ready to ski, but it's worth it.
Baller rodltg2 Posted January 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 19, 2016 Even better than Saran wrap is that packing stretch wrap. Can get at home depot. Works great. Tip I got from Robby at sunset .
Baller dbutcher Posted January 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 19, 2016 Packing stretch wrap is what I use - the Home Depot kind. Lowe's has it too. I couldn't think of what it was called on my earlier post. It's on a roll with a handle.

Baller GAJ0004 Posted January 29, 2016 Baller Share Posted January 29, 2016 Go with the full suit. Friends I ski with have them, and they like them better than their drysuits.

Baller _ lpskier Posted January 29, 2016 Baller _ Share Posted January 29, 2016 I've skied all winter thus far in a Black Tec heater top and been just fine. The water in Otown has hovered around sixty and the air has been high 50's to low 70's when we ski. My concession on a cold day is a neoprene hat. For a die hard O'Neill guy, I sure like my Camero gear. One note: I bought an XL heater top two seasons ago and a second XL this fall. They fit quite differently, with the current model having longer sleeves and a slightly fuller body. Lpskier
mikegile
I like the monkey suit - long arms/short legs. In the Pacific Northwet it gets me to October when the dry suit goes on, then back to it in May. Saves the Saran wrap for the chicken legs you eat.... Baller _ lpskier Posted February 16, 2016 Baller _ Share Posted February 16, 2016 Does anyone that uses the shorty have issues with their legs filling with water during deep water starts? Lpskier
Baller Dirt Posted February 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 16, 2016 I have 3 rides in my Camaro Black Tec Fullsuit and love it. I bought it from Robbys Ski Shop. The customer service was great with fast shipping. I will use this instead of my drysuit. It is super light and flexible.
Baller MichaelGoodman Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 My shorty fills up even though it fits tight. I think I will try the shrink wrap trick.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 @lpskier ... I have had 2 shorty's and a long suit, and yes there can be a problem with water in the shorty. For a long time I used some Velcro straps around the lower leg part of the shorty and that worked pretty well. However, you could get water trapped in there in a fall...Then last Oct. I was shopping in Sports Authority and saw these 3/4 Length Compression Shorts that are used for Bike Racing. Really light and stretchy. I bought a pair and put those over the shorty. Best decision ever, never any water and they are so light you don't even know you have them on. Problem solved !!!
Baller_ Wish Posted February 17, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted February 17, 2016 @Ed_Johnson do the shorts go below the knee?. I'm currently using the velco idea with good success but like the idea of something over the suit and below the knee.

Baller baja Posted February 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 19, 2016 I have the 2014 2.0 full, the 2015 3/2 full and the 2014 shorty 1.0. The 3/2 is available in "long" sizes so I gave it a try. It also has a higher neck with velcro closure which was most welcome when the water was 50 degrees a few weeks back. Don't notice any decrease in the amazing comfort and flexibility. Now with water at 65 I'm in the shorty.

Baller dchristman Posted April 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2016 Another thumbs up to @Ed_Johnson for the compression shorts over shorty idea. I finally got to try this out back home in colder water today. It works great!

Baller BrennanKMN Posted April 20, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2016 I have never really found the need for a shorty. I have a full suit that I use up until I just go in trunks. I have yet to be too warm or restricted so I haven't seen the need to buy two suits. With that said I got a camrro top this winter that I will start using that this spring after wetsuit weather is over.
