QUINCY, WA (January 29, 2016) – We are excited to announce that Crescent Bar River Fest will include the first annual Herb O’Brien Memorial Cup this year. Radar Skis, MasterCraft Boats and Sunshine Marketing have partnered to celebrate the Godfather of waterskiing with this Cash Prize Pro/Am waterski tournament.

Our mission is to celebrate the spirit that Herb O’Brien instilled in waterskiing, the passion he held for water sports in the Northwest and his specific love of Crescent Bar. It’s these values that we wish to reinforce in the community through an annual professional ski event and pro skier tour through Western and Eastern Washington.

The Herb O’Brien Memorial Cup will feature and international field:
K.C. Wilson – 3X Jr. Masters Champion
Brooks Wilson – 3X Jr. US Open Champion
Freddie Winter – Pro Champion and British Record Holder
Jason McClintock – Canadian Record Holder
Stephen Neveu – World Champion Medalist
Chris Rossi – Professional Champion
Trent Finlayson – Canadian Record Holder
Terry Winter – Professional Champion

Herb O’Brien founded O’Brien Sports, HO Sports/Hyperlite and most recently Ronix Wakeboards and Radar Waterskis. In 1972, he built the second ever manmade waterski lake in Woodinville, WA which today remains one of the most famous lakes in the world. Anyone with the privilege of knowing Herb remembers him for his generosity and giving nature. There are endless stories of his compassion told by the hundreds of people who worked for him over the years.

Crescent Bar River Fest is a community event celebrating summer and featuring an INT League Amateur watersports competition, Classic Car Show, Stand Up Paddle Board and Paddle Sports Race, Golf Tournament, Wine Tasting, and Live Music in the heart of Grant Country. The festival will take place June 24-26, 2016.

Choosing CBRF and Crescent Bar for a professional event recognizes one of Herb’s favorite places to ski and highlights one of the countries true natural watersport communities.
Crescent Bar is located on the Columbia River in eastern Washington. The island was one of waterskiing’s original locations for tournaments in the 1970s because of the protected waterway in between the island and the cliffs that tower over the river. In this special place, mother nature has created an aquatic gem protected from boat traffic and wind. It is the perfect place to swerve.

The watersports events will be held at Fireman’s Beach at the park on the island. The channel will be closed to boaters on Friday, June 24- Sunday, June 26 for the safety of the event participants. The event promoters, the INT League and Sunshine Marketing have been working with Crescent Bar Inc., Grant County, Grant Country PUD, the Sheriff’s office, and other local government groups to organize this event and obtain all necessary permits and permissions.

Should be one round where you must ski on an oldie wooden O'Brien slalom. Back

around 1970, an entrepreneurial friend from the Lake Sunapee area bought 300 to

act as a dealer/seller. Later, started a water ski shop in Sunapee harbor. Moved on to

a Marina in the same area; didn't have the good luck he had with the first 2 projects.

Said that he eventually sold all 300 of the woodie goodies.

Crescent Bar is a channel off the Columbia River near the town of Quincy Washington. In the 70's and 80's prior to the building of Koppert Lake and Borderline, Crescent bar was the location of most of the tournaments in the state of Washington. This site was shared by clubs that would host each tournament. The Goodman family built a Jump and trucked it over from Bellingham and stored it in the weeds near the boat Ramp. Each weekend the entire site had to be setup. Slalom Course, Jump, Jump meters etc... And of course torn down on Sunday, made for some long weekends. The weather was always hot and little to no wind. Lots of good memories of some great skiing and legendary parties on Saturday nights.
