Baller_ lpskier Posted May 7, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted May 7, 2016 Anyone have experience traveling on Southwest with a three event bag? Did they charge you? If so, how much? Lpskier
Baller oldjeep Posted May 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 7, 2016 No charge for the biggest sport tube made.
Baller igkya Posted May 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2016 No charge for me.
Baller EricKelley Posted May 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2016 Never with slalom only. Most of time with jumpers. $80. Sky caps and a $20 dollar tip can get you through.
Baller Kelvin Posted May 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2016 If you can keep it under 50 lbs - no charge. You are allowed 2 checked bags, 1 carryone and a small bag for under your seat. If you plan accordingly and spread the weight you can make it work. Every now and then you will run into a clerk that doesn't understand their rules. Recommend finding their policy online and having it printed out in case you need it.
Baller_ lpskier Posted May 8, 2016 Author Baller_ Share Posted May 8, 2016 Bear in mind a three event bag is 90" long. Lpskier
whetski
Nashville to WPB, Nashville to San Diego, Nashville to LAX, Nashville to Houston, Nashville to Austin, check in curbside and tip the skycap $20, and never had a problem with SW. I also removed my binders from the slalom and jumpers and put the binders in a second checked bag. Had clothes and such in a carry on. Was able to keep the 92" 3event bag and "equipment" bag under 50lbs each. The times I have been charged was due to being over the 50lbs. Still worth the $20 to the skycap even if you do get charged $50 or so.
Baller jcamp Posted May 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2016 Their baggage rules (findable online) specifically say that water and snow skis are free. I'd think that if you told them there were skis in the bag you'd be ok.
Baller_ lpskier Posted May 8, 2016 Author Baller_ Share Posted May 8, 2016 @whetski. Thanks. That's the intelligence I'm looking for. Lpskier
Baller unksskis Posted May 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2016 Most of the time if under 50lbs, it is free. Interesting enough I was charged an oversized bag charge leaving Ft Lauderdale from Nationals, didn't have time to argue or bring up the policy. Baller_ lpskier Posted May 20, 2016 Author Baller_ Share Posted May 20, 2016 So as a follow up, my three event bag at 50 pounds on the button was free on Southwest. No muss no fuss. The hard part was leaving all the unfilled space in order to stay <_ 50'. #iskiconnelly Lpskier
