What's a promo boat?

It is a boat provided by the manufacturer to a representative for use and promotion at ski tournaments. Typically, the representative is a skier and enters into an agreement with the manufacturer to transport the boat to tournaments, care for it, promote it, and, ultimately, sell it at the end of the season. The representatives do pay for the boats and essentially own them.

There are pricing considerations given to the representative and that can also translate into savings on the retail price for the end consumer who purchases the boat.

The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.

@MISkier they don't "essentially own them". The vast majority of promo"s are "actually owned" by those who are in the program. There are certainly likely exceptions like the top end of the elite skiers, but even that not a given.
