Baller PondTraveller Posted December 1, 2016 Baller Posted December 1, 2016 Any time I plan on getting on a plane whether for Business, Family or a Friends Holiday...I also look for a ski site to ski at. I know I'm not alone in this search to ski a new site in a new place or a new site in an old place! I thought we should start a discussion that fellow skiers can get the low down or at least some information as they plan their next pond to ski. I have skied a good number of places but I'm sure there is a lot of spots I still need to travel. I love the bucket list idea that my skier friend and I have going ....tried to ski a new site each year (and hopefully one that requires a plane ticket) So ask away about different sites - I've skied a few. Post where you have been and where we should go! My latest trip was Waterski Costa Rica. I'd have to say it was one hell of a great time. Great ski site, great coaching with video analyze and a laid back atmosphere. The all inclusive feel with amazing adventures after skiing every day made this trip different and very memorable. We got to see a piece of the country and experience the volcano, hot springs, zip lining etc. etc etc. The hosts Jim and Susan are wonderful.
Baller jcamp Posted December 1, 2016 Baller Posted December 1, 2016 Here is an article from WaterSki mag that is a good place to start.
Baller Thomas_Gustafson Posted December 2, 2016 Baller Posted December 2, 2016 Come and see me in ITALY next year. www.waterskiitaly.com
Baller PondTraveller Posted December 2, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 2, 2016 Hmmmm I was just on your site Thomas after reading your post! I skied with Tgas the last time I was in Italy. I will definitely come and see you next time. I need to get back to your beautiful country soon. How far are you from Venice?
Baller PondTraveller Posted December 2, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 2, 2016 Can anyone answer this question? What is the closest ski site to Santa Monica, California?
Elite Skier Luzz Posted December 2, 2016 Elite Skier Posted December 2, 2016 @PondTraveller Feel free to drive a bit north of TG next time you are in Italy… Ski coach at Jolly Ski, Organizer of the San Gervasio Pro Am (2023 Promo and others), Co-Organizer of the Jolly Clinics.
Elite Skier ColeGiacopuzzi Posted December 2, 2016 Elite Skier Posted December 2, 2016 @PondTraveller The closest ski site to Santa Monica is the Quarry in Corona, CA after that your best bet is the Bakersfield Lakes. Radar Skis Follow Instagram
Baller jimbrake Posted December 2, 2016 Baller Posted December 2, 2016 @Colebrah - is the Quarry in Corona a club set-up or private, by-invitation-only, or what? My son Trevor who is a student at UCSB may have an intership in Costa Mesa this summer. Wondering if the Quarry might be an option for him to get some sets. Any info appreciated.
Elite Skier ColeGiacopuzzi Posted December 2, 2016 Elite Skier Posted December 2, 2016 @jimbrake its a private club, you have to be invited by a member and they must be there with you. I know they were struggling with water last time I heard. If that doesn't work out, id say Bako is your best bet for your son. Its a ways from Costa Mesa that's the only downside. Baller mwetskier Posted December 3, 2016 Baller Posted December 3, 2016 @Colebrah -can't you drive an easy 2 - 3 hours east of santa monica and end up in newberry springs which is the mother land and mecca for all serious skiers? more private ski lakes than you can count without setting down your beer?
Baller PondTraveller Posted December 3, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 3, 2016 @Colebrah thanks for the info. Do you have any contact info for the Quarry?
Administrators Horton Posted December 3, 2016 Administrators Posted December 3, 2016 @PondTraveller I bumped a number of threads for you. You should also search for "Horton & Hill tour" Note: use the search window below the banners NOT the one above. Baller PondTraveller Posted December 3, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 3, 2016 @Horton - thanks for the threads. Apparently I have a lot of lakes left on the list for me - which is great. Funny to read of your adventures. Thanks again. I head to St. Marteen in a couple weeks to ski at Ski Caribes with Brigitte and Laurent for a week. I love this little island and have skied here a few times. Looking forward to getting back on the water and the food, beer and airplanes that land in crazy ass proximity to the beach.... I'm in Santa Monica for business in January but I wonder how many people are skiing in January in California? Been to Sunset Ranch, of course closed being that it's Sacramento...never skied south of there. Seems a lot in Bakersfield but again - is January do-able?
Baller Thomas_Gustafson Posted December 3, 2016 Baller Posted December 3, 2016 @PondTraveller We are about hour and a half south of Venice by the coast, Not even a mile from the beach and a lovely fishing village Cervia. You can check out Waterski Italy on Facebook also.
Baller PondTraveller Posted December 4, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 4, 2016 Thomas_Gustafson - awesome.
Administrators Horton Posted December 4, 2016 Administrators Posted December 4, 2016 @PondTraveller I'm an hour and a half from Santa Monica. In fact one of my regular ski buddies lives right there. It is doubtful that will be skiing in January. Administrators Horton Posted December 4, 2016 Administrators Posted December 4, 2016 @mwetskier Newberry in January is freaking cold. My dads lake IS ground zero but in January you have to be out of your mind to see you there Goode ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Administrators Horton Posted December 4, 2016 Administrators Posted December 4, 2016 One of the problems is all of the ski Lakes in the southern half of California- there's no Public Access or clubs anymore. Baller PondTraveller Posted December 4, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 4, 2016 @Horton @mwetskier - what is freaking cold to you? Just curious...haha
Administrators Horton Posted December 4, 2016 Administrators Posted December 4, 2016 High air temp of 60 or less is bad Goode ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Baller ral Posted December 4, 2016 Baller Posted December 4, 2016 Add another city to your list, that includes our own friendly Chacabuco https://goo.gl/fOfmUS
Baller PondTraveller Posted December 4, 2016 Author Baller Posted December 4, 2016 @ral Thanks - I googled Chacabuco - Can you stay right on site? I saw a pool.
Baller mwetskier Posted December 4, 2016 Baller Posted December 4, 2016 @Horton -i did not know about winter in newberry sprigs i was only there in late spring and just kind of assumed it was hot and dry all the time. silly me.
Administrators Horton Posted December 4, 2016 Administrators Posted December 4, 2016 @mwetskier windy as hell in the spring. Hot and still in summer and fall. Cold as balls in the winter. Baller ral Posted December 4, 2016 Baller Posted December 4, 2016 @PondTraveller, the lake is within a large development, so the houses you see are private and no lodging is available on site. But if you fly at all to Santiago, drop me a note and I will set you up for a set.
Elite Skier ColeGiacopuzzi Posted December 5, 2016 Elite Skier Posted December 5, 2016 @PondTraveller there is only 3 of us skiing in Bakersfield, that's our whole winter crew. @Horton will ski every once in a while with us. But if you are around in January, I'll get you a ride. Radar Skis Follow Instagram
Elite Skier ColeGiacopuzzi Posted December 5, 2016 Elite Skier Posted December 5, 2016 @mwetskier Bako is where it's at for sure! Come in the spring or summer we'll get you some rides! Radar Skis Follow Instagram
