Baller_ lpskier Posted December 22, 2016 Baller_ Posted December 22, 2016 Is it just me, or was 2016 just kind of a ho-hum year for water skiing in the news/gossip/ current events department? What is 2016's big story of the year? Lpskier
Baller_ MISkier Posted December 22, 2016 Baller_ Posted December 22, 2016 How about Regina breaking the world record? The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller disland Posted December 22, 2016 Baller Posted December 22, 2016 Agree with @MISkier that record was stuck at 1@41 for years
Baller ozski Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 And Jacinta jumped it out of the park. How many pro events has she won in a row now with daylight in second place? I can tell you its something like 30 or more. Talk about dominant athletes in any sport Jacinta Caroll is up there with the best of them.
Administrators Horton Posted December 23, 2016 Administrators Posted December 23, 2016 There were some stories this year. The skier of the year article is in my email and be posted in a few days. walleye Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 I thought the witch hunt thread was the biggest news I have Heard for gossip anywho.
Baller bkreis Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 we've got manon giving the other 2 girls some competition..regina killing it late season..freddie and corey on nate's heels...junior trickers putting up pro scores..been quite a year!
Gold Member Than_Bogan Posted December 23, 2016 Gold Member Posted December 23, 2016 Firstly, could someone change the title to 2016? Although technically they began operation in 2015, the first production ski from a brand new ski company hit the world in 2016. The MOB system went into production in 2016. The Radar Vapor definitely made a huge splash. To me, Freddie Winter's injury was one of the biggest stories of 2016. Fingers firmly crossed for a 100% return!
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted December 23, 2016 Baller_ Posted December 23, 2016 2016 biggest story's for Team Seal: Boise Nationals and night Jump, Wow!!! What a great event. Along with Stephen "El Toro" Seal winning his 11th National title. Monica "Dr. Moe" Seal DPT Graduating USF and now back on her jumpers and going big!! The inaugural La Trobe slalom event. Team Seal Wishes all you ballers and your Family's a very Merry Christmas and a safe healthy new year!! Thank you 2016!!
Baller ESPNSkier Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 There was also Whit's amazing US Open, running 2@-41 in two consecutive rounds to win the US Open!
Baller alex38 Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 10th person to run 41 in a tournament
Baller_ DW Posted December 23, 2016 Baller_ Posted December 23, 2016 More as an industry item, the apparent resurgence of skiing v wake sports and the introduction of yet another revised hard core slalom or 3 event boat completing a redesigned or new offering from the major brands in the last few years. Along with numerous stellar Individual performances.
Baller Dacon62 Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 Lots of good stuff in 2016 but would have to put the almost 60,000 views of the new 2017 Malibu TXi at the top for shear number of views.
Baller skidawg Posted December 23, 2016 Baller Posted December 23, 2016 Almost as good as the 100k vapor thread
Baller ALPJr Posted December 24, 2016 Baller Posted December 24, 2016 Maybe not the biggest but... How about @Horton and Ball of Spray initiates a viable new approach to tournament skiing which draws in current, former and new competitors. Now if he can just find a site to host one in the Northeast.
Administrators Horton Posted December 24, 2016 Administrators Posted December 24, 2016 @ALPJr I did my first event in 2015. The news is I survived 3 of those events in 2016. Baller Stevie Boy Posted December 24, 2016 Baller Posted December 24, 2016 @Ipskier I was thinking the same, but my thoughts did turn to the fact that Andy Mapple was no longer with us and how much that has impacted our sport, I also think the forum has been quieter in certain ways, there were always rumblings that he was developing something as well as the sharing of knowledge. The G.O.A.T is still missed by many, he was a personality that promoted our sport at every opportunity.
Baller_ aupatking Posted December 30, 2016 Baller_ Posted December 30, 2016 To me, it was a big year The release of the new TXi with an almost immediate WR is some crazy news. Sure to be big buzz over the off-season. Also sure to get the others moving on a new design. The Supreme/Centurion talk is a big one, but will be a 2017 story. The Vapor has been huge, and I'm wondering what 100k+ hits spells out for resurgence of slalom in the real world. Also, having at least 3 real male contenders with sub -41 capacity at any big tournament is insane. Whitney's running 2@-41 shows that gap getting smaller, and Manon not far behind. Jacinta is jumping so far beyond the field that I honestly don't know what to say Men's trick is a really tight field, and Anna Gay setting a new WR is bringing in a new guard. Like I said, I think it was a big year
Baller Edbrazil Posted December 30, 2016 Baller Posted December 30, 2016 Regarding Jacinta, she may be closing on Deena's run of 38 jump wins in a row. A mark that was thought to stand "forever".
RLogan Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 How about Anna Gay busting a 3 year standing Trick record. Awesome.
Baller_ lpskier Posted January 3, 2017 Author Baller_ Posted January 3, 2017 How about KLP finally becoming a World Champion? Lpskier
Administrators Horton Posted January 3, 2017 Administrators Posted January 3, 2017 @lpskier you sure he was never world champ when he was a kid? Baller Edbrazil Posted January 3, 2017 Baller Posted January 3, 2017 The best placement that Kris had in his prime was 2nd at the 1979 Worlds in Toronto. Finishing 2nd to his brother. At another Worlds, Kris had the best score in one round. He was unable to ski in a lot of Worlds because you had to be on a country's team, before qualifying by Rankings. However, he did compete in 1975, 1977, and 1979 as World Record holder.
Baller_ lpskier Posted January 3, 2017 Author Baller_ Posted January 3, 2017 @horton Well, he is my ski partner... Lpskier
Baller LLUSA Posted January 3, 2017 Baller Posted January 3, 2017 @Horton KLP was never a worl champion until this, I've had several discussions with him about this, close in Italy when Robby Zucchi won
Administrators Horton Posted January 3, 2017 Administrators Posted January 3, 2017 He's such a legend that it is hard to believe that you could add to the resume at this point in his life Goode ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Administrators Horton Posted January 5, 2017 Administrators Posted January 5, 2017 Haaaa @rico I am afraid I do not think 3 @ 39 is the M4 Bako record. I am guessing a few local skiers have gotten that far before but it has been a number of years. Elite Skier Luzz Posted January 5, 2017 Elite Skier Posted January 5, 2017 I'd say Manon winning the SG Pro Am on borrowed equipment (ski, binding, everything) and running .5@41off in the final h2h bracket with it… insane, it was an honor to witness it Ski coach at Jolly Ski, Organizer of the San Gervasio Pro Am (2023 Promo and others), Co-Organizer of the Jolly Clinics.
