Baller ForrestGump Posted February 23, 2017 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2017 Closest thing I can recall was Aquafest in Austin, which ended in 1998. Was a week long festival in downtown Austin and on the banks of Town Lake. Over 100,000 people throughout the week watching live music on 3 or 4 different stages, parades, etc. They even used to have a slalom tournament on Town Lake during it, along with drag boat races, canoe races, sailing regattas, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just think it would be really hard to get a motorized event approved I know the speed limit on the river is somewhere around 12MPH. At least the river is clean enough to swim in now on certain days. In a long ago previous life, I worked in Cambridge and my daily lunch time run was on Memorial Dr. (Cambridge side) then crossing over and returning on Storrow Dr. (Boston side). Aquatic Park in Berkeley, arguably a skiing Mecca. is also home to rowing and sailing clubs. How about alternating west and east coast festivals? You would need to pair it up with the regatta or something but it would be a perfect backdrop. Add some vendors and it would be a big draw.
