2017 Best slalom V-drive

So Model year 2017 is officially upon us. Malibu messed up their VTX hull last year. Nautique discontinued the Sport 200, so now we are left with the new 20 VTX vs. the GS20 vs. the XT20. Which one is the best for slalom? Anybody got any time behind them or any video evidence of one being better than another?

There are sport 200s around. I was looking at Boat trader the other day and saw some.

Oh I understand that's probably the case, I'm more just wondering as we look toward the future which brand would seem to have the leg up.

The gs20 is suprisingly skiable at 32 off 34mph. Don't know about the others

If you're considering a 20 foot vdrive, give the tigé r20 or RZR a look. (Same hull different bells and whistles)

Just like I told my buddy that was looking for a boat. A V drive is a V drive and a slalom boat is a slalom boat. He ended up with a SN200. We surf and wakeskate behind our DD and it is great. If a crossover is what you are after I would go a Sport 200.

If I needed a V I'd sure be looking for a used Sport 200.

Best slalom V-drive is the Infinity. :)

@scotchipman My understanding is that before 2016 you could order it with the wake hull or the slalom hull and after 2016 you can only order it with the wake hull, so the slalom suffered. However, that is a very astute observation about the weight. I would have to imagine even with a wake hull, it starts with a large advantage to be 1,000 pounds lighter.

@bigskieridaho you are definitely one of the few who is surfing behind a DD. What is your setup?

@escmanaze on my old boat it was a 350lb bag across the back, 250 up front, and a homemade surfgate. My new boat has a wedge so once I set that up I can let you know.

2017 VTX did chance considerably and not even in our boat rotation anymore. The wake is much bigger and in my opinion not skiable. If you utilize the optional center mount pylon the tower now gets in the way of the rope at any length shorter than 15 off.

 

A buddy upgraded from a 2014 VTX that was very skiable at 28 - 32 off and now it is exclusively in the surf boat rotation only!
