Baller ozski Posted April 18, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2017 I would be interested in hearing some owner opinion & feedback. I've owned both PCM and Indmar, no real issues with either. I've heard some negative comment about the Ilmor but its been minimal and nothing I would draw a conclusion from. The Ilmor has been around for a few seasons now so how are they holding together? Baller fox197 Posted April 19, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2017 Hey ozski. Have a 6.0l open cooled ilmor in my 2013 197. Just clicked over 300hrs, no problems at all, extremely easy to service.
Baller pcmcon729 Posted April 19, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2017 I have owned 2 boats with PCM, and put 1200 hrs on both. Zero issues. I have owned a number of Indmar, but flipped them annually, as they were promos. For the time I ran them, no issues. The current ride has a 2012 Ilmor. I am on my 4th circulator pump. I have also had a leaky manifold freeze plug that I found were steel, and not stainless. There are 20 on the manifolds alone, half being on the inside facing the block. They are now installing stainless. Also, the hoses going from the thru hull fitting all the way to the raw water pump, are suction hoses, and as a result, have a coil of wire inside to keep them from getting sucked closed. Mine were steel, not stainless, rotted out, got sucked into the raw water pump, destroyed it, and overheated the engine. They now have hoses with stainless wire coils. The boat is only used in fresh water. I am not at all impressed with these annoying issues. Next boat will be powered by PCM.
Baller swc5150 Posted April 19, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2017 3.4 hours on my Ilmor and it's still going strong;) Of the 8 Indmars we owned, the reliability was solid. Serviceability sucked though, as they were not thinking when deciding where to place the oil filter.
Baller ForrestGump Posted April 19, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2017 There were some growing pains the first two years with Ilmor, IE 2011 and 2012. Most now rectified. One thing I always loved was their oil filter setup. Right on top with a bowl around it that drains back into pan. Unscrew the filter and let it drain itself, then throw it away. No mess. Baller epnault Posted April 19, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2017 I love my Ilmor!! Mostly because of the look and serviceability (Weatherization)
Baller ozski Posted April 20, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 So from what I have read the 5.7 Ilmor is only 320hp which seems a little low by today's standards?
Baller Texas6 Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 It's plenty even on a short set up - at least at sea level
Baller ForrestGump Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 @ozski Ilmor rates hp as it lands in the boat, ie with belt drive and exhaust in place. All marinizers do not test in that method.
Baller jjackkrash Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 Did Ilmor go with the 6.2L GDI engine this year, but stick with the 5.7 non-GDI? I thought the 5.7's were running out of stock; maybe Ilmor has them stockpiled?
Baller greg Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 They still offer the 5.7L as well as the 5.3L and 6.2L GDI
Baller swc5150 Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 Ilmor still offers the 5.7, but also a 5.3DI, 6.2Di and the big boy 7.4MPI. @ozski my 5.7 has a plenty of punch. I've only had the boat out once, but it sure doesn't feel like we've given up any power compared to our 343 SN.
Baller 9400 Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 We currently have the 6.2 and it is easily the most powerful ski boat I have ever driven or skied behind.
Baller Broussard Posted April 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2017 As of right now only the 5.7 and 6.2 are available in the Prostar .
