Measuring distance/Action cameras?

I watch a bit of motocross on TV and have seen some of the action cameras have a "hangtime" display overlay. Has anyone used one of the newer cameras while jumping to gauge distance? Is there a software package that does that? Just curious. Seems like it would be useful when training.

I spent a stupid amount of time trying to get that kind of data out of consumer electronics. Action cameras GPS sport trackers Etc. It's all super inaccurate. It might be fun to play with but I don't think there's any real technical value.
