Administrators Horton Posted July 18, 2019 Administrators Share Posted July 18, 2019 Anybody have a recommendation on these things? The one thing I do know is that I need the tubes go all the way down in the bottom of the pan. I used one last month that still left a quart of oil in the pan so we still had to drain it out the bottom of the boat. Baller skihacker Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 I use a mighty vac mv7201 fluid evacuator, with a small piece of 5/8 heater hose you can pull the oil from the drain tube. It will empty a warm motor in a minute or so.
Baller BraceMaker Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 Get one of these Connect it to your vac and suck out the drain hose.
Baller Kelvin Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 https://www.hodgesmarine.com/Jabsco-Diy-Oil-Change-System-W-Pump-And-3-5-Gallo-p/jab17850-1012.htm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzbHN34C_4wIVTL7ACh1s0gcREAQYASABEgLR4fD_BwE&click=19 I built one of these for about 1/2 the cost here. Easily connects to the drain hose and can be stepped down to a smaller tube for the transmission.
Administrators Horton Posted July 18, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted July 18, 2019 @BraceMaker that is what i want to do. Figuring out what the correct threads and part sizes are for the Ilmor. Baller jhughes Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 Another vote for the MityVac. I also use it for bleeding brakes. Hundreds of oil changes over the years and still going strong. Very handy item.
Baller swc5150 Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 @Horton I own that extractor. Works great in the boat, and most cars (does not work in Porsche's). I also use it to suck out trans fluid.
Administrators Horton Posted July 18, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted July 18, 2019 @swc5150 well if it doesn't work for a Porsche I'm out. Do you think it'll work for my Ferrari or Aston Martin? Baller swc5150 Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 lol wise guy! A used Aston is easily half of what your Prostar goes for, so you never know?

Baller vtjc Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 I have a Mityvac MIT7201 that works great for boat, car and small engines. Mityvac
Baller Zman Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 Various oil extractors are fine. But, best not to jam tubing down the dip stick tube. Know someone who went too far and tubing got caught on the crankshaft. $600 later everything was OK. Use the oil pan drain hose as several have suggested. Baller dvskier Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 I agree with @Zman use the drain hose and an extraction device. Do not use dipstick tube as you’ll never get all the oil out. I personally drain my oil through the drain hose and let it drain overnight. Not worried about getting all of the oil out. I do use an extraction device for removing transmission fluid. Baller BraceMaker Posted July 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2019 Mityvac but when new pull lid, the aluminum vacuum tube needs the end gunked with silicone rtv all around the crimp or it will fail in 2 years and spray oil when ya pump
Baller Deke Posted July 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2019 I use the Mityvac for transmission oil. Boat is on a trailer so no big deal to drain the oil through the drain tube. The real issue with oil changes is getting the filter off without making a complete mess of the bilge.
Baller Kwoody51 Posted July 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2019 I use this and put it through the drain hose, not dipstick. Works well and makes it super easy. Oil filter - now that is a mess! Baller Moskier3ev Posted July 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2019 Horton I have the one you have pictured. I love it take my compressor to the dock. It even sucks the oil filter dry also on my 17 MC.
Baller JackQ Posted July 19, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2019 If anyone really cares, I would not use a vacuum extraction on a Aston, three drain plugs on the dry sump system would not work and there is no dipstick.

Baller BraceMaker Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @aupatking just like oldjeep said 1/4 female pipe thread. You can buy a barbed fitting for like 5 bucks or every air tool kit comes with a few so if you have an old airline it has one on it.
Baller_ DW Posted September 18, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted September 18, 2019 Oil changes on British cars are really easy since they all self drain... @Horton - is there a reason you don't want to drop the drain hose out the bottom?
Baller oldjeep Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @DW - that all depends on the boat. In my inlaws 04 LXI the drain plug on the boat puts the engine oil drain hose in a really bad spot - could be solved by extending the hose, but it is a lot easier and cleaner to just put the pump in the boat and attach it to the drain line there. Now if I could just figure out a clean way to replace the oil filter in that boat. Seems designed to get all over everything.
Baller liquid d Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @dw what? why the hell would you want to do it the way it was designed!? What's wrong with you!
Baller_ DW Posted September 18, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted September 18, 2019 @liquid d - darn, what was I thinking:-) @oldjeep - so I could send you the extra 3' of hose my boat happens to have:-) Oil filter mess, yep thanks to adapting an existing item to a different device... I just happen to like using gravity as my friend and have heard the horror stories of the tube insert versions leaving it in the pan.
Baller Zman Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @oldjeep For the oil filter trying putting a few paper towels in a small plastic bag, then kind of get the bag around the filter once you get it a little loose. Then, finish unscrewing. Captures the dripping oil. Some engine set ups might make this harder. Works fine on my Txi with 5.7L.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @DW that is why you never use the tube insert method. You attach a fitting to a vac extractor and attach the vac extractor to the threads on the oil drain line.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @Zman - unfortunately nothing really works on the Black scorpion setup in the inlaws LXI. The oil filter is amongst a bunch of hoses that make it pretty difficult to get out even after it is unscrewed. In my VTX, simple - remote filter, drops straight down into a waiting baggie. Baller BraceMaker Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @DW - I don't drain mine through the hole mostly because I want to drain it nice and hot. Same with trans fluid - so if I'm doing that I'm running it. Which usually means its going to be on the lift so to use the drain hole you have to crank it up then either stand under the boat in the water holding a drain pan or float under on a paddleboard or whatever. Then if you spill/slosh its in the lake. I'm also usually removing the oil filter at the same time which means I want to have the bilge plug in so that I can wipe/clean up any mess and not let that into the water. Baller tjs1295 Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 I have a mityvac already that I use for draining the transmission fluid. I'd like to use it to drain my oil, especially when it's on the lift. Does anyone know what size parts to buy to get what Horton has on the previous page made by Richard Doane? The engine is a 2007 Excalibur.
Baller skimtb Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 @tjs1295 I’m new to the mityvac thing, 1st attempt will be in a month or so. The plastic hose from it is 10mm OD. And my boat has 1/4” NPT thread on end of drain hose. So I got adapter from grainger.com. Pic attached w their part number. I’ve checked both the mityvac and boat end and seems good. Hope this helps. Baller Chef23 Posted September 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2019 I have a 20 year old version of one of those and I have a thinner tube on it that I stick down the drain tube. It seems to get more oil out than I used to when draining it through the floor.
