Baller whitem71 Posted September 24, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 24, 2019 Sometimes it's just cool to watch how amazing these guys were 37 years ago...
Baller ALPJr Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 Awesome 15k spectators KLP v BLP head to head. Both getting so close to the world record 3@-39. Freakin awesome!,,

Baller jhughes Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 It's amazing to think that a guy hanging out of the side of the boat with a stop watch is the course timing system. They must be doing 6-ball times in addition to course times right? How often were times out of tolerance enough for re-rides?
Baller thager Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 From my experience you would see a couple rerides per division. The drivers were generally quite good althougjh some were hammers.
Baller Nando Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 I timed and judged in a couple of pro tour events and can't recall any rerides. Timing was only mid-course and full- course. A good drive can pretty much nail hand driving. As @thager says, there were some pretty bad drivers in the hand-driving days that could get good times with crappy pulls- and a few that would give crappy pulls with lots of rerides. Check out the old-school jump meters- those were pretty primitive. Did that at several pro tour events, too.
Baller Rich Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 In the eighties at least they had mid course & end course on a digital watch. In the 70's we had only end course & Minerva sweep stop watches. Things have changed a little. I remember when Al Lockett was developing a timing system that worked off magnets. Now its all GPS. Baller Nando Posted September 25, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 Yes! the tick-tock- that was the way you ended it if you were really hot in the '80s. Tried that once- found out I wasn't really hot...
Baller whitem71 Posted September 25, 2019 Author Baller Share Posted September 25, 2019 Interesting that although the style adopted by most modern pro slalom skiers (I.e. Level head, forward reach, counter rotation) is quite different to that of this era, BLP still looks pretty on it all those years ago. Class act. Anyone else notice though KLP's gate was pretty much identical to Robert Pigozzis!
Baller skiinxs Posted September 26, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2019 Wow, Kris almost hits the jump apron on the bad side at 10:50, reminded me of worlds this year!
Baller LLUSA Posted September 26, 2019 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2019 Driving was art that very few mastered, some thought they could drive, but the few and far between knew what to do with the throttle
