Baller 9400 Posted January 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 14, 2020 Makes the conditions at the last Worlds look pretty good.
Baller klindy Posted January 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 14, 2020 @9400 the falls are similar to the last Worlds though.
Baller BlueSki Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 That was cool. Some of the falls remind me of college tournaments.
Baller thager Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 Amazing they could run anything on that ski tech back then!
Baller wilecoyote Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 Thanks for posting, from what I can tell, skiing looked more fun in those days. I love the trick runs where the handle pass, toe pass and 2 ski pass are all done at once, we should bring that back.
Baller wilecoyote Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 And I just gotta have that speedometer in my boat!
Baller fu_man Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 At 0:35....I know the boat was smaller but were the gates and boat guides wider too? Gate seems really wide especially for how large the buoys were. Would that course have been prior to the conversion to the metric course? Very cool seeing the jump as part of the trick runs. Also cool to see how they timed trick runs with the red flag and the old way of measuring jump.
Baller Nando Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 142' on wooden skis with virtually nothing for bindings and wearing just a (very fashionable) swim suit and a vest- nothing but respect for that. I do wish I'd seen a tournament just once where the judges wore referee's shirts...
Baller UWSkier Posted January 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 That's some crazy jumping action. Can't imagine how many butt-check enemas there were back in those days. Yeowch! And trick-skiing back then looks WAY more interesting to watch than the modern event.
Baller Cooper_Trelawney Posted January 15, 2020 Author Baller Share Posted January 15, 2020 Fast forward to 1983. Some serious 39.5 off action

Baller ghutch Posted January 16, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 16, 2020 One thing you can 100% be sure of back then... they were coming out of their bindings!
Baller pregom Posted January 17, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 17, 2020 Simply amazing what they could do back then! Wood skis, floppy bindings, skimpy (styrofoam?) vests, no helmets... and at 5:50 you can see the speedometer at 36mph, all with manual speed control. Baller Cooper_Trelawney Posted January 23, 2020 Author Baller Share Posted January 23, 2020 Check out these World Championships in Italy in 1977. Compare the number of spectators then to the most recent worlds...
