I’m pretty sure the photo posted by @MISkier is of a competitor in the new slalom jump event. The buoy in the photo is actually a distance marker. The only question is was he able to ride it out beyond the ride out buoy?

@Chris55, look closer. When I pull that photo up on my home computer and zoom in, I see two things:

 

1. Reflection of the skier and ski on the water.

2. Some amount of spray/mist near the tail of the ski.

 

I'm going with genuine. But, I sure would like to know who took that photo and the full story. It's a great shot.

How do you score that? Looks like at least a quarter in the picture.

By the way, I believe @Cam initially posted that picture. Perhaps he knows the details.

I've seen someone execute that move in real time and while in photos it looks like the ski leapt up from the water I'd bet the few frames before were of someone pulling hard and long trying to make the ball and getting yanked off edge. So in real time I think you'd see that his back hand popped off the handle and that his left hand isn't reaching just hasn't gotten yanked from his fingers yet.
