Baller DanE Posted May 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 24, 2020 Purpose of exhaust flaps is to prevent water to get pumped passed the risers by waves when the boat is moored without a boatlift and the stern facing the waves. They serve no purpose while the engine is running even when going in reverse. Could also prevent excessive water flowing in to the hull in case of a catastrophic failure of a muffler/hose.
