Baller BS74 Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 I'm interested in moving from central FL to N. Fl in the Lake City area. I saw an older(2017) thread regarding skiing at Ocean Pond by skiers @mjump and @MillerTime38. Does anyone know if skiing is still going on there or are there some other sites near by? Baller mjump Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 We no longer ski there. The closest places are Jacksonville and lake 38 in Tallahassee
Baller BS74 Posted September 19, 2021 Author Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 @mjump: Is the slalom course no longer allowed on the lake?
Baller Cnewbert Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 Ocean Pond… It’s a nice lake to ski on but the course is no longer there I believe. No reason why one could not ski there.
Baller BS74 Posted September 19, 2021 Author Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 @Cnewbert : I believe in the older thread that they had the course permitted. Anyone know if a course is still allowed or if residents or park shut it down. Wonder if it was a permanent or floating course?
Baller Cnewbert Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 @BS74 I’d be surprised if it had a permit. I recall it was floating. PM MillerTime38. He would know the details.

Baller Cnewbert Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 Be patient. He’s in Japan and maybe not monitoring BOS frequently.
Baller MillerTime38 Posted September 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2021 @BS74 we did have a permit for the course that we got through the forest service. I moved to Japan and @mjump moved to Orlando area. No one gave us any trouble about the course, obviously we would have some balls missing or small course damage from boat traffic but nothing major The lake was a good site, surrounded by big trees there was always a good shoreline for open water skiing when course was blown out. Weekends got fairly busy but early morning and weekdays we had the lake to ourselves pretty much
Baller BS74 Posted September 20, 2021 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2021 @MillerTime38 : Is there any chance that I could get a copy of the permit? I'd be more than happy to reimburse you and @mjump for the costs incurred to get the permit.
Baller ETskier Posted September 21, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2021 @Millertime38, Was that the forest service or fish and wildlife division?
Baller MillerTime38 Posted September 21, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2021 @ETskier the lake was in the Osceola national forest so it was through the forest service
Baller mjump Posted September 24, 2021 Baller Share Posted September 24, 2021 We had the permit with dep but had to have the forest service sign a paper that it was ok with them. If you need help getting a permit let me know
