Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted February 22, 2023 Baller_ Share Posted February 22, 2023 Anyone know when the last year was where a outboard boat was utilized for a r&L level 3 event tournament? Maybe Australia?
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted February 22, 2023 Baller_ Share Posted February 22, 2023 I know they used outboards for jump on the pro tour in the early '90s. Better throttle response with the 2 strokes, but I can only imagine tracking was crap. 1 If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller Broussard Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 @Bruce_Butterfield Outboards were utilized for the jump event at pro tour stops as early as 1987. At that time Yamaha was a presenting sponsor for the tour. By 1991 they had switched to using inboard powered ProStar 190s for jump. .
Baller elr Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 Sea Ray Ski Ray SK190 was AWSA approved in 1991 - don’t know if it was actually used in R&L level tournaments, read that Ricky McCormick was involved with Sea Ray so he might know. Baller Drago Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 I think that was an inboard
Baller GregHind Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 I’m pretty sure moomba last ran them in 2001. Stejcraft pro skier with Suzuki 2 strokes and perfect pass.
Baller dvskier Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 I had a 93 Ski Ray, 17 ft inboard. Great for a first inboard. They made a 21 foot inboard also and an outboard.
Baller skibrain Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 A little bit more info on Ski Ray
Baller Broussard Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 Looks like they used outboard powered towboats for Moomba in 1997. Inboard powered boats were used for jump at Moomba in 1999. .
Baller jjackkrash Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 We used a barefoot sanger with a 200 yamaha for a college event in '91 for jump and slalom. I am sure it was only a C tourney though. Would ski behind again.
Baller GregHind Posted February 22, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 22, 2023 My earlier reply wasn't correct. Moomba used them in jump in 1998 (and I think the other events too) and it looks like they switched to the ski nautiques in 1999. You can get a good view of the boat at about 4:22
Baller VONMAN Posted February 23, 2023 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2023 My 1988 Barefoot Warrior was a Approved 4 event tow boat back then. Ernie Schlager
