  1. I guess if it were me I would pull the dash and disconnect/reconnect the harness that is going to the screen, and the connection at the brain box (medallion?) under the dash. Also check the bus bar under the dash and make sure all the ground screws are tight. Since it sounds like it is just a canbus communication issue that is not impacting the ECU itself (since the boat runs).

In my 2012 I have an issue with my upper screen every once in a while that requires the connector be plugged and unplugged, although in that case it is just the RCA cable from the brain box.

  2. FWIW - when I had a Merc engine, I just used the quicksilver 25W-40 they recommended in the manual because it was cheap and I could buy it pretty much anywhere.

Should also say that my Inlaws have always just used 15w40 Rotella in the Black Scorpion Merc in their LXI.

In the end, they are all the same GM Marine crate engines regardless of who the marinizer was.

  3. You have to work to get out of the water behind a boat with only 115 HP. That is the primary reason I sold my 140HP runabout years ago in favor of a 350HP crossover ski boat. I'd suggest trying to get out of the water with a drop ski to start.
  4. The plastic isn't really an insulator in this case since it is the source of the static and you are trying to negate the difference between the ground potential of the pump and the actual ground.

As far as grounding the rack - in the olden days some pumps used to actually have a ground strap with a clamp that you could hook to something. Can't recall if that was just diesel pumps or if some gas pumps had them. It was back in the day during college when I was driving trucks that were full of AV-Gas and chemicals for a heli-crop duster. So we did our best not to screw up and get a spark ;)

Unfortunately since the rack is painted there is a pretty decent chance that grounding it wouldn't do anything ;)

  5. I've got a 14 gallon caddy that we bring to the lake when we are staying for a week. Otherwise it is the fuel supply for all the yard equipment. Anything much bigger than that would be a pain for me to lift in and out of the pickup bed. If we lived on the lake I think I would just get one of those $3000 fuel trailers.
  6. We just bought my wife a slasher at Scheels last week, it was one of the few that fit her properly and didn't look like a grocery sack.

She has a Radar Cameo that we throw in the boat to be legal, but it is bulky and just doesn't fit girl shape very well.
