  1. Still haven't gotten onto a course or even skied behind an inboard, but I did get to ski almost every week this summer, which is a ton for me. My wife and I planned to buy a newish RLXi with her dad, instead of going on a honeymoon, but he backed out.

Things that happened - skied in the rain, circumnavigated Lake Elsinore skiing moderately hard, taught a friend visiting from Germany to ski, and had about a dozen less OTF's behind jet powered wakeboardish boats vs last year. Didn't quite achieve a regional ranking this year, but I still had fun.

  2. Are you going around buoys or free skiing in open water? If you're free skiing and continuing to pull out away from the boat after the second wake on the same side as your rear foot, your calf will take a beating. I used to get horrendous bruising when I was a kid and skied that way. More skiing that way makes it worse. It's not as bad if you are actually slalom skiing with decent form. A neoprene sleeve would help you quite a bit.

HO's new crossover series of skis (like the Freeride) have a wakeboard-style bevel on the back half of the ski that really seems to decrease the beating on your back leg in a free skiing environment.

  3. The beginning of this season was embarrassing for me as I kept falling to the instep of my front foot (RFF) during deep water starts. Changing my grip didn't help much. Setting the tip of my ski to the 1 o'clock position and keeping pressure on the right edge essentially fixed my problem. Thank you, deep water start thread! My friend's kids now have fewer reasons to laugh at me.
  4. The Strada-based (2012-2013) Senate and Theory are, essentially, the same except the theory is .20" wider than the Senate so the Theory would hold you higher in the water than the Senate at a given speed. The new Senate is based on the new Vapor shape, only .20" wider.

I ride a '13 Senate-C in open water and love it. There was a brief adjustment period over my previous 30 yr old Jobe but now it's clearly superior in every way. I would recommend it or a Theory all day long.

  5. I love this website. It helped renew my interest in something I set aside for 20 years.

Centurion is going to send the very best example of their latest and greatest to the most visible person in our a sport. That's a smart move. John is likely telling it like he sees it when he gives his opinion of his CP. To me, that just shows how small the margin is between the Big 3+1.

  6. I was in 5th or 6th grade recording every episode I could because it was on at 2 AM or something and I couldn't stay up that late. My one waterskiing friend would come over on the weekends and we'd watch the tapes.

That and the Jet Ski races. Larry "the Ripper" Rippenkroeger was my hero back then.
