  1. Thanks to all. I’m trying to wrap my head around how the whole system works. Case in point...when mapping the course, the whole deal seems to be when to hit the arrow key when you “think” the gates pass the pylon. These systems are so precise you can dial stuff in to the 10th of a second, different pulls, etc. But isn’t it all based on eyeballing when to hit that arrow when mapping the course? Just curious.
  2. I have been using Stargazer for the last few years on a 2004 SN. We are going to upgrade to the ZBox. I see it has 9 presets. Being a senior skier, what setting is the most forgiving? Thanks, Tom
  3. Just curious. I was having trouble last season, the GPS would never lock. So I tried Classic mode. Things just seemed a little bit easier. We are not tournament skiers anymore. Never enough time to travel and I am getting up there in years. My sons can still rip it though. 38 off. So what is the basic difference between the two? I still get the all buoy timing since I mapped the course and times are good. Even though I like to have the latest and greatest, do I really need to use GPS mode? 2004 Ski Nautique. Cheers.
  4. Thanks to all. After I buff out the minor scratches, I am going to try the new spray on ceramic by Silex. Any thoughts.
  5. I have a 2004 SN which is in excellent condition. Garage kept. But over the years the bow is showing some minor scratches from use. What is the best product for removing said scratches? I use Babes to maintain the boat. Great products. Cheers. Tom
  6. I met George at the Nationals in Pique, Ohio years ago. What a great ambassador for our sport. He will be missed.
  7. Thanks to all. Some great info! Really appreciate everything. Best, Tom
  8. Just pulled the course. We always play "Boys of Summer" as we load the boat on the trailer for the last time.
  9. Also, what about squirting oil in cylinders? That never made sense because oil will only lay on bottom part of cylinder and piston?
  10. No need to fog engine on fuel injected engines?
  11. Over the years I have always purchased the high dollar stuff at my local marine store. Is this necessary? I store my 2004 SN in an unheated garage in Northern Ohio.Never gets that cold. Someone told me the good stuff lubes the impeller. Can't I buy just the cheapo stuff at Home Depot? Thoughts? Thanks, Tom
  12. Yes, the beeps come at what seems like the same spot, about the front seat. But when I set up PP, I set the entrance gate at the pylon. Maybe that is normal, boat anticipating forward motion? As far as boat surging...I noticed while pulling my son last night at 34 the boat hit 35 mph going from 3 to 4 then backed down. And the complaint I heard from him, "always messing with PP, should have not updated and kept the magnets" Thoughts? Best, Tom
  13. I am trying to understand PP works and fine tune. We ski in a small pond with not a bad setup but I suppose it could be longer. About 2100 ft. Anyway, I just upgraded to the latest version of StarGazer in a 2004 SN 196. A few questions... Since we replaced our floating course with a permanent course years ago, we never had it surveyed, I think we must be close since we have always gotten good times. How does one survey a course anyway? We have limited access around the perimeter since it is a borrow pit. Could we use a mobile GPS? accurate enough? Since I upgraded, boat seems to search more in the second half of the course. Also, the beeps seems to happen nearer the bow and not the pylon even though I setup the upgrade properly. Is this normal? I adjust crew weight and I back off the throttle after pulling the skier up. I really appreciate the forums, great info. Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  14. Thanks colo_skier Heading out tomorrow and experiment. Thanks to all who posted.
  15. Wow. My head is spinning. I'm going to take up barefooting! Thanks for the info. That really does explain it nicely. We really should have our course surveyed.
  16. Thanks for the reply. So, if the course is off a bit, it has to be reset, right? I am getting perfect time however.
  17. I just replaced a D3 Leverage binding that was old and torn to a new Leverage. Having all kinds of trouble. I never realized how much difference a tight fitting binding makes. Kind of happy to hear that it will take a couple of weeks to get used to it.
  18. All great points! The course is not surveyed. We replaced an Accufloat years ago. We dropped the cement blocks by using the Accufloat as a template. Even if I am getting correct course times, the course could be off, right? I am going to give PP a call. Their customer support is top shelf.
  19. I just upgraded to StarGazer software that does not use magnets. Installation went well so I took the boat out to the lake to give it a try. I mapped the course as per instructions. When I passed the gates at the pylon I hit set then did the same at the other end. All seems fine. While skiing I noticed that the PP beeps when the bow goes by the boat guides. Is this normal? It seem that since I programmed the gates at the pylon, the guides would be the same. Full course times are fine except the boat seems hot for the first 3 balls. I am just trying to understand how it all works. I never used to give it much thought but now I kind of find of interesting. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  20. @AB I have passed by your site many times. Nice. The land owner will not allow amurs or dye. Still, not a bad deal.
  21. @edbrazil used to love your articles in Waterski.
  22. Plenty of skiers in ours. Great site but weed control is a problem. We have folks come in and treat it with chemical. Expensive and I now have extra body parts.
