  1. Checking your equipment for failure is high on the list. As one who has had 2 nasty falls from loose screws (binding and fin), I now check regularly.
  2. I had no problems getting up on my very first attempt with the Powervest, unlike others on this site that had many problems. Just keep your knees well tuck in is the only thing that I could suggest.
  3. I had not idea that there were so many options for courses in the Orlando area. I will be at my new place Jan - March next year, and I will always be looking to hook up with other skiers. My plan had been to use the local schools as I don't have a driver and decided not to bring my boat down for the winter.
  4. I just bought a rental in Clermont but it is for short term rentals so probably out of your budget as I rent by the week near Disney. Not on a lake, but 30 minutes from 6 different ski schools. I decided to go that route instead of dragging the boat down every winter. $35 / set at LaPoints or Active ski, doesn't make bringing the boat worth while. I would do a search for a place 30 minutes from the different ski schools in the area Travers, Jodi Fischer, Lapoint Ski part, Active ski, Swiss, Lucky Lowes, etc.
  5. Try the powervest while you are recovering. I just got one this season and it works wonders.
  6. I only started course skiing at about 43. Now at 58 I have run a PB of -28 every year for the last 3 years. I am hoping that I have more PB's in front of my. My body is starting to complain however!
  7. Several years ago, I wanted to make the switch to "correct" grip. During the off season, I mounted a handle on my shop wall. Every night before bed, I would grip the handle the "right" way and simulate several pulls. I did this for 5 months. On my first set of the season, I got up and skied with the "correct" grip. After a fall, I accidentally went back to the "wrong" grip without realizing it. I finished the set the "wrong" way without even realizing I did it. I was never able to make the switch.
  8. I just bought a home in Clermont so that I can ski in the winter. It is 30 minutes from 6 different ski schools, and bringing my boat down from up north every winter was not my idea of fun. My plan is to be there a couple weeks a month for the winter months. A ski club would be a great idea, provided it was close enough. It's hard to beat $35 at either LaPoints, or Active ski however. Other places in the area are much more expensive. By the way, I am renting it out when I am not there. There is an ad under rentals here on BOS.
  9. I rode an HO freeride series a number of years ago when I was 225 lbs. I skied it from 30-34 MPH and ran -22 off with that ski. Just avoid the HO animal bindings as I broke both ankles with those things.
  10. I had a similar problem with my '97 MC that had a seaweed filter on the main raw water intake. It took some time to diagnose, but it turn out to the cap for the seaweed filter was not seated properly. It was sucking some air when at idle, but on plane the water pressure was high enough to maintain normal temp.
  11. Wish, the fall I took at your place last week was worse than I thought. Probably cracked a rib. I understand it is a 4-6 week recovery.
  12. I had a '97 MC with the LT1 and I thought the wake was great. I believe the '98 is the same hull. I also ski in the 30-34 MPH range and -15 to -28 off with that boat with no problems.
  13. It's also a good idea to use the powered lubricant on all the seals. It helps to get the suit on, It's like a cheese cloth bag filled with something that looks like baby powder.
  14. My brother recently moved to NC and he claims to have seen some people skiing a course on Lake Norman. I may be visiting there in the spring. Can anybody confirm that there is a course there? Is there a club? Any help would be appreciated.
  15. I've been using the ML's for years and the Grippers before that. I tried the Radar's one time and found that the plastic buckle digs into my wrist to the point that it's painful.
  16. What about picking up the Zero Off audio beep for the gate? Easy to do and filter out other frequencies. Not elegant but functional.
  17. Do your PT and slowly build your confidence back. I broke an ankle, ankle and foot 3 years in a row. Not from hard falls either. One wasn't skiing related. Turns out I had ostiopina, early stages of osteoporosis. A year on the proper meds and all is well. I was also in my early 50's when the first broken ankle happened. 57 now and still skiing. If you love it, keep at it.
  18. Does anybody now of any sites near Charlotte NC? My brother just moved there and I will be visiting soon.
  19. I am actually going to be in Orlando on Wed and Thursday, May 20-21 looking for ski property. If anybody has any contact information email me at martyzuber@gmail.com
