  1. They use self setting marks for racing sailboats, it would be pretty amazing for skiing! Basically it’s a sailing course set with gps driven buoys. Damn expensive though. https://www.marksetbot.com/
  2. Thank you for all your responses! I agree with getting permission. If I’m going to do this, I want to do it right. Looks like I need to start doing some research on permits. I’m thinking the permits needed are likely the same ones our yacht club acquires to set our racing courses. No resident owns out into the lake, so I think I’ll have to go through the state. NY
  3. So is there anyone out there that has gone through the process of dropping a course on a public lake( not a portable course) ? My friends tell me to just do it, drop it. I grew up with stories of having courses and jumps on The lake. Why not now? If access to our sport is the problem, isn’t putting a public course in worth the BS it might entail? There are far more dangerous things going on on The lake than is skiing a course.
  4. I always wear ice picks and check the ice thickness in multiple areas before I go ice boating. And never alone
  5. What was your most fun ski moment(s) of 2021? Mine was going to ski school for the first time in the spring, and spectating at worlds in the fall.
  6. I went for Rome City and gallon of water each day. Did the body good. BBQ on site, smoothies and curry. Skiing is top notch ?
  7. @rodecon That was my next question! Where to get good beer down there? Ellipsis sounds like a good stop. Looking forward to meeting up! I’ll be checking it out from Thursday on and just going with the flow ?
  8. @lpskier Definitely a variety of some tasty IPAs/session IPAs I would imagine : )
  9. See you all down there with my cooler of beer! Thanks for the info
  10. I’m interested in going down to Sunset Lakes to watch Worlds in a couple weeks but I can’t find any info on what to expect. Is there a link somewhere that I’m not seeing? Is there an area for spectators? Do I buy tickets? Are there vendors? Can I bring a chair and a couple beers? What should I expect if I head down there? Thanks for the info!
  11. I had the same boat and only free skied on it. I never had my tank above 1/4 full, skied 34-36 mph usually 28-32 off and the wakes were actually pretty nice!
  12. I watched the Swiss last year and it was probably the first time I had watched any skiing on TV since Mapple and Cox back in the day. It pretty much fired me up and got me out to try the course for the first time down @theboardingschool in March. I’ve become a ski contentivore, bought a 93 mc Prostar and am fired up for the ski season! Anyone else pumped to see what the pros bring on Sunday?! I know I am!
  13. I decided to get some coaching @theboardingschool for a week which was fantastic! Now I have all season to work on everything Manon and Freddy taught me : )
  14. @TEL i sure don’t want to head north, especially since I won’t be able to put the boat in for another month ?
  15. I ran my first pass today, it is such a thrill!!! I couldn't be more happy with the coaching from Manon (she is awesome!), the site, everyone that runs @theboardingschool, accommodations, I couldn't be more happy. Thank you for all your advice! I tried to follow most of it. Three more days : )
  16. @pregom that’s a good point I didn’t think of. When @lpskier said the water was 66 degrees, I was thinking that’s not too bad. But if I’m in the water more than not, that could be pretty cold! Let’s say I need something more than a heater shirt (I don’t have much of a layer to protect me from cold). What are you all wearing?i’m thinking I’ll be humbled and sitting in the water more than I’d like : )
  17. Well I'm all booked! I can't wait to make some turns and finally see some sun come March! I decided to take a two week solo road trip down south with a few stops along the way and end up at ski school : ) Thank you all for your words of wisdom, motivation and kindness! I think this will be a great adventure. Ok, so what does a northerner wear skiing down in Florida come March? What water temperature range should I expect to see?
  18. You're right @lpskier, I didn't think of it that way. Thanks for all the advice.
  19. @eyepeeler I think my first goal would be to not think of work for one second and feel like I'm on vacation (I have no doubt I can do that). My second would be get instruction to improve my technique so I can free ski better but also maybe be able to make a few balls. I've always wanted to ski a course, I know I'll get addicted to it. I'm just not sure I can afford the addiction :D Thanks for all your thoughts and advice I do appreciate it!
  20. My lake buddies and I have always skied, but never in a course or on a private lake with any instruction. Its always been a Spring/Summer thing for us. Get a morning ski in and then do varying other lake things after the water gets either blown out or chopped up from boat wakes. I'm really intrigued in going on a ski vacation, but I'm also not exactly sure if we'd be out of place being around people who ski courses all the time. Or maybe that's exactly what we need? We're at varying open water ski levels, most of the websites of the ski schools say they teach beginner to pro. Is this true? What is the daily routine if you go to a school for a week? I'm thinking of going in March down in Florida, is it already too late to book a trip? What are your thoughts on this? Good or bad idea (we're all in our 40s)? are the ski schools even running with Covid going on? We're ready for our next adventure.
