  1. @moski filming in 2.7k res zoomed out it's good, as expected, especially with the built-in stabilization (just started using it for filming our slalom with a Ski-Doc Orbit pylon mount). I zoomed all the way in (linear view for both tests to get narrow field of view without the fisheye effect) and I'd say the video quality was maybe half. Still good enough to critique body movements and technique. 4k would be even better, especially if I didn't zoom in all the way; we're running 15-off, so shorter line lengths would be better. I can post the footage if you'd like when I get some free time.
  2. I'd love to try this ski out, but not sure if I should keep on progressing with my current '14 Vice Carbon... I just started skiing the course in July and finally made a complete pass going 28 @ -15 in a grassroots tourney a couple weekends ago (currently don't have access to a course). I'm hoping to be up to 32mph early next season. I like my vice carbon, but it feels almost too stable and I would like to try something that is a little more aggressive in the turns (my technique obviously still needs A LOT of work). Mine is a 67" and I would like to try a 65". I know my speed isn't up yet, but I'm 5'6" 143lbs.
  3. You may be right, @Gus. I'm not familiar with that iPad since it's not mine. So, I guess I have to find a friend that has a newer iPhone that does slalom because I'm not spending 1k on a phone, let alone an Apple product...
  4. Just skied in my third tournament (just started on the course in June/July) that had a Malibu on Saturday and Natique on Sunday (pretty sure it was a '19 since the owner just picked it up on Friday). I'm a lowly grassroots skier just trying to figure out how to ski the course going 28mph @ 15 off, but at that speed and length the Malibu felt a lot nicer for me as I was finally able to get around all 6 on my last pass of my given set. Sunday on the Natique was another story... Never felt comfortable, and my third pass I had a really nice OTF. Definitely not blaming the boat, as my technique is still horrendous, but I'd definitely prefer the Malibu or our old prostar 190 at my current speed/length.
  5. I tried using the app on Friday with an iPad but couldn't get it to work. Put the settings in (free ski, 15' off, 26mph, hand held) but when I put the camera on the skier, there was no button to record. It just gave the directions for aiming it behind the boat and wait until it starts moving. Well, I tried keeping it on the skier for a few minutes making turns but nothing happened. Am I doing something wrong?
  6. @Glydon I went from 3+ silver to the 6 this year, and aside from having to get it replaced (didn't turn on after using it a few times for no apparent reason), I like the change. They're a little expensive, but I see they're already under 400 on fleabay. The stabilization is nice, and they even updated the software to make it a little smoother shortly after I received mine. Only gripe is that the battery only lasts about an hour (buy spares), and it takes up a lot of memory, but that goes with the territory when you shoot in 2.7k or 4k... (64gb is good for 4hrs @ 2.7k 30fps).
  7. Finally got some footage to test it out, but Dashware doesn't work well with Windows 7... It wouldn't even open without crashing until I installed a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++. It then would open, but the gauges wouldn't display any changes, and it would crash when trying to create the video. After some more research, it appears that GoPro doesn't spend much or any time updating their Dashware software. So, I apparently need to upgrade to Windows 10 to use it, and I don't really want to do that right now.
  8. I have a Vice (carbon model) and have only been free skiing at 28-32mph for a few short summers and don't find it hard to ski on at all. It's a higher-end ski, so might be a little harder to get up on than a wider ski. On a side note, I had to use a ski from about 1990 last year while visiting a friend's cabin and it was like I forgot how to slalom. Went back to my Vice and was so much better and easier to turn! I'm just under 145lbs and have a 67". I'd like to try a 66" but don't feel like buying another ski until I can run the course.
  9. I'm 10 minutes from crooked lake; didn't know anyone had one there. I've only skied the course a couple times and would love to get some more experience. I've just been free-skiing up in Isanti with my dad and sister.
  10. @Tom351 Thanks, I have windows 7, so I'll try Dashware hopefully later this week when I ski next.

  12. Didn't realize the gopro 6 had this option... Thanks for posting. I'm going to look into trying this.
