  1. @Slalom.Steve Will this app work with a Pro Xtreme camera? Considering this as a low cost high function alternative to GoPro.
  2. I think there was one version of Al Tyll’s book that had an “attempt ratio” or some such metric. There are far too many variables to venture a number. Assuming decent coaching and decent equipment, I would tell them not to fret. Practice makes perfect and they’ll get the hang of that trick before long. If others can do it, they can too. That’s why I emphasize studying video of others. Don’t sweat it. Have fun. If you ain’t falling you ain’t trying. Then again, I still can’t do a wrap-in TO consistently. I threw out the attempt ratio a long time ago.
  3. Sounds interesting. Any experience using this for tricks? I GoPro every trick pass and this could save my wife a lot of reaching around to turn the camera on and off. We’ve been using an antique Hero3 that does the job but it might be time to upgrade.
  4. I was saddened to hear of the passing of my old friend Steve Lohr of Sparta, VA. Steve and I competed against one another in the Eastern Region over fifty years ago. After going our separate ways we met again many years later as we vied for the National trick title in the senior divisions. Please join me in sending condolences to Benny and the rest of the family.
  5. @bojans Agreed. The combination of drone and boat footage was well done. Thankfully they have learned not to switch views in the middle of a run, or at least not very often. Using Matt Rini and Kyle Eade as color commentators was a good move.
  6. An entire day of top tricking. I was the kid in the candy store. New men’s world record for Pato. Matias over 12 for the win. Jake over 12. Go Jake. And what can I say about Erica? Tony, Matt, Kyle and I gasped simultaneously when Martin Larba landed a first-ever TW5B landing in the wrapped position. No one had ever seen such a thing.
  7. Finally watched the whole thing. Great interview. Great stories. I was introduced to Joel at Matt Rini’s before he became well known. Love him for the joy of life that he brings to the sport. Would love to see someone back a feature length film about water skiing. Hey Joel, you need to start hanging around some of the Red Bull powder skiers.
  8. Tune in? I plan to be watching from shore. Who else will be there? Should be great.
  9. Interesting. My first impression is how short the list is.
  10. Good one. I have what I call Bruce’s Button. Whenever I lower my boat to go skiing it’s a signal for the wind to come up and/or for the Wallys to appear out of nowhere. Yesterday I fought a breeze that I couldn’t avoid. By the time I was done the lake was glass.
  11. 43” should work well for you. The ski size should not vary with the speed. The speed you set is a matter of feel. The ski should turn easily, not bogging down and not slippery. There is no hard-and-fast rule. Experiment and see what speed works best for hands and toes. Find your comfort zone.
  12. Tumbleweedish. That’s a keeper Jody.
  13. Love the minimalist rear toe. What year is this Eric plank?
  14. Nice find. Mint vintage. it’s OK to admit you’re a trick skier. @eleeski Are you going to Senior Worlds?

Only Eric would drill a hole through the bottom of his boat. Sucking wind again. 🙃
  16. Johnny was a good guy. My condolences to Cindi and family.
  17. Damn close Jake. Great skiing.
  18. I will send you a private message. I might have what you need.
  19. You hit the nail on the head.
  20. Many thoughtful comments on this thread. One that has not been mentioned (unless I totally overlooked it) is that kids do not water ski at all these days. It’s knee boards, wakeboards and tubes. It’s rare to see kids being taught to get up on skis.
  21. I was successful in building the administrative foundation for competitive barefooting. That resulted in the largest growth spurt the organized sport had seen.
  22. @Dano When I was executive director in the early ‘80s I feared this would happen. I tried to get the Board to focus on the recreational skier. I was roundly ignored. They would spend hours arguing about technical rules and could not have cared less about growing the base.
  23. I’d need poles to get my weight forward. 😛
