  1. In the late ‘70s I was working for AWSA and was driving between Phoenix and Tucson to attend a conference and wanted to see Firebird. The site was closed but the gate was not locked. I entered and was confronted by a huge Pima security guard. I explained who I was and said I just wanted to see the lake. No luck. He kicked my ass out.
  2. I’ve got a bunch of old ski mags that I’m giving away to anyone in the Winter Haven, FL area or anyone who is willing to pay shipping. Mostly The Water Skier ‘80s and ‘90s with some Spray and Water Ski and a few Eastern and Southern Regional guides. Most in good condition a few with articles clipped out. Let me know if you’re interested.
  3. I’ve been using prescription RecSpecs for years. I have a homemade neoprene headband that works great. Without them I could not see the course coming much less an apex.
  4. @Jody_SealThat’s a heck of a story. Intrigue on several levels.
  5. @dchristman. I still have a hoppy style.
  6. I tried Saucier trick skis. They were terrible. In an interview, Cory Pickos marvels at how he did so well on clunky square-edged Sauciers as a kid.
  7. @Hortonis reliving the past.
  8. I’ve had a lot of dreams about skiing but can remember almost nothing about them. I have had nightmares about getting sucked into the turbine inlets of Conowingo Dam. We used to ski right up against the dam when the wind was out of the south.
  9. @dchristmanyour dream tricks are definitely more advanced than mine. TWLB without a wake. Dreams don’t have to make sense.
  10. I drove Cory Pickos a couple of times for the AWSA trick series photo shoot. I drove Ricky McCormick a few times for trick practice.
  11. Joel Polland will break the world trick record.
  12. I’ve done both. It’s good to have a dealer check it out once in a while, so I sometimes have them do routine maintenance while it’s in the shop.
  13. Fantastic! I think Pato’s technique has improved. He looks smoother than ever. Chalk up another record for Lake Grew.
  14. Frozen water will do this time of year. You’ve got me salivating.
  15. Thanks. The strategy is to outlive the competition. The opponent becomes not the other guy but yourself. It’s a physical and a mental challenge.
  16. Thanks @jgills88. This is the last episode I had planned. But, who knows, if I recollect a story that I think is worth relating, I’ll scribble some more. Thanks to all Ballers who followed the series. It was fun to write.
  17. I’m a newcomer to the anthill but I’ve been impressed with the functionality of the forum. Well done @Horton.
  18. A foreman told me they would drain the lake to install the boat ramp. The lake had been full due to heavy summer rains followed by two hurricanes.
  19. Over the years I’ve rubbed shoulders with skiers from many lands. The Aussies and Kiwis are my favorite mates.
  20. Weeks owned the property on which Lake Grew was constructed.
  21. @cruznski At one of the early Wings N Strings festivals, I won a raffle for a ride in Kermit Weeks’ Ford Tri-motor airplane. It so happened that Tim O’Brien was on the same flight. We chatted. I had purchased his mandolin instruction book. The tri-motor was featured in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Traffic was stopping on I-4 as we warmed up for takeoff.
