  1. Frozen water will do this time of year. You’ve got me salivating.
  2. Thanks. The strategy is to outlive the competition. The opponent becomes not the other guy but yourself. It’s a physical and a mental challenge.
  3. Thanks @jgills88. This is the last episode I had planned. But, who knows, if I recollect a story that I think is worth relating, I’ll scribble some more. Thanks to all Ballers who followed the series. It was fun to write.
  4. I’m a newcomer to the anthill but I’ve been impressed with the functionality of the forum. Well done @Horton.
  5. A foreman told me they would drain the lake to install the boat ramp. The lake had been full due to heavy summer rains followed by two hurricanes.
  6. Over the years I’ve rubbed shoulders with skiers from many lands. The Aussies and Kiwis are my favorite mates.
  7. Weeks owned the property on which Lake Grew was constructed.
  8. @cruznski At one of the early Wings N Strings festivals, I won a raffle for a ride in Kermit Weeks’ Ford Tri-motor airplane. It so happened that Tim O’Brien was on the same flight. We chatted. I had purchased his mandolin instruction book. The tri-motor was featured in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Traffic was stopping on I-4 as we warmed up for takeoff.
  9. @RAWSki Looks like a must-have accessory for jumpers. Extra distance wings.
  10. Home of Scott Ellis and Bill Wenner. I believe Kevin Jack trains there. When I first saw Lake Tennessee circa 1978 there were no houses anywhere nearby. Just citrus groves.
  11. I’ve mentioned him/her in other threads but Caitlyn/Bruce Jenner should be at the top of this list. Bluegrass phenom Tim O’Brien waterskied on the Ohio River as a teenager. Snow ski icon Glen Plake loves to barefoot.
  12. Don’t suppose the pitot tubes are original equipment. Nice paddle, though.
  13. There’s a closer connection between tricks and skiing bumps.
  14. Not much of a connection between the two. Alpine is just a good way to stay fit, enhance balance and have fun doing it.
  15. At the World Water Ski Show Tournament I bumped into a couple of barefooters that I hadn’t seen in forty years: John Cornish and, from Germany, Franz Kirsch. John is working on a web site to document the history of barefooting. According to him, others who were on the first US Team as members or alternates included John Cornish, Bill Cooke and James Matthison.
  16. Thanks both for the kind comments. @ALPJr I probably have a hard copy squirreled away in a box somewhere, but if I recall, my only mention of Judd’s lake is that it was formed by a dam. It did include a photo of the lake.
  17. Many thanks to Matt Rini and Cole Grant for letting me demo the ski before I purchased. I didn’t find out until afterward that the ski I borrowed was Joel Poland’s. Cool. Thanks Joel.
  18. Kevin played the part of an old-time newsboy on a bicycle to open the show then later did his flips routine. Canada also had Gillaume Tetreau doing trick ski flips.
