  1. Horton, Do you have your $1200 dollar fin block on the MPD? Brian
  2. That is hilarious, although I am sure it wasn't at the time it happened! But thank you for sharing that one! Brian
  3. Anyone out there have a 64" 120 AMP Goode 9534 they would like to unload?
  4. Had a discussion with my ski partner this morning on binding placement. He was adamant that bindings should be as close together as possible. I think my Monza skied better for me with the bindings separated, Front using middle holes and rear one hole back. What does every one else think? Move bindings together and as close as possible or move independently?
  5. I used Wileys for years and never had an injury. The only problem I had was a long, low volume foot. To get them to fit I had to use MD instead of LG and after my second pass my foot would start to cramp... after the third I couldnt wait for the boat to pull me up because they hurt so bad! I am now using Approach bindings. I had a slight sprain of my rear ankle in an OTF but far more comfortable than my wileys. Not saying I wouldnt use them again... just have to take shorter set, or spin at the end.
  6. Does a ski breakdown or does it go through an inetial break in period and then maintian a flex pattern? The reason for my question is my ski partner tried the Fisher, basicly the same size as his 2002 D3, but could not get it to work. He hops back on the old D3 and skis better than he did on the Fisher. The reason he bought the Fisher is that we had onvinced him that his D3 was broken down and a new ski would help improve his performace. It seems to me that old D3 has a lot of life left in it. How would you know if a ski is brokendown and needs to be replaced?
  7. RS, Thanks for the info. I will pass it on to my friend.
  8. Any one have any recomendations for seting up a 2002 D3 Custom? Does it ski better with the bindings set one hole forwward?
  9. I would like to know how everyone trains for the slalom course. Do you go out and try and run up the line every time? Or do you stay at a certain line length and work on technique for a couple of sets and not cut the line? On Andy Mapple's video he said he does "one balls"? Does anyone use a set schedule for the week,i.e. so many sets at this line length for monday, Wednesday tournament sets and something different on Friday? Before I started skiing I raced bicycles and we broke our training week into speed, endurance and mountain work in an attempt to become a more well rounded cyclist...does anyone do anything similar with slalom?
  10. I want to thank everyone for responding to my question. To update, we have started to adjust the ski and as it turns out Jodi set his front binding about a quarter inch too far back. Just making that adjustment helped. I still find that the idea of having a ski "set up" as somewhat elusive. How will I know when I have it done right?
  11. RS, Thanks for your response and I think you are right about technique first, ski second. But my question is If you don't ski with 100% sound technique(and what that technique is,west coast, compressed, old school, could open a whole other can of worms) how do you know if a ski is set up properly? How do differentiate a technique problem from a set up problem? Has anyone ever come up with drills you could do outside of the course that would let you know if you have proper set up? How does one know, given their current level, that they are getting the best performance out of their ski?
  12. Brent, Thanks again for your reply. I just read Horton's "your ski is a lever" and according to his article I thought it would be taking out depth. Why do you say DFT?
  13. I really appreciate your reply and like you said what does he have to lose. Here is another question; does weight effect fin adjusment? Would the stock settings work for someone who is on a 66 and weighs 160 be the same for someone weighs 130? I ask becuase he is on a 66 and weighs in at 130.
  14. So here is my question… how do you know when to adjust a fin or when to focus on technique? Let me give you some back ground to help muddy the water a little bit. I am skiing with a friend who recently bought a 66 Fisher yellow, and is really struggling with his 35 passes. He runs it but it is ugly! At the end of the turn the ski pops up and the rope drops in the water, big hit and he is off to the next ball only to have it happen all over again. Last year while skiing on his D3 he had a similar problems at 38 but was able to cut to 39. Nowhere near that on the Fish. The guy has a great attitude and comes from the school of thought that he should run 39 on a 2x4 and wont blame the ski. Set after set he tries new stuff but all with the similar results. When he bought the ski he flew out to Jodi’s, skied with him for a couple of days after he set the ski up and it hasn’t changed since then…I don’t have the numbers and we can get into that later, but what does everyone think, Technique or ski adjustment? There is no question in my mind that technique always needs to be improved. But when does a tweak on a fin here or moving a binding forward there help? Only after perfect form is achieved? Or can a fin adjustment help to overcome bad form? Ideas, thoughts?
