  1. @xrated I know exactly what you are saying, it would be humbling and addicting like water-skiing. And all though it would be very frustrating you would want to go back as much as possible. I would hate to have that happen!! It could be another expensive addiction!! I think I am going to have to give it try. You are right there is always a place for us flat landers to play off trails, powder and the occasional water to skip! Loads of fun no matter where we ride.
  2. @AKShortline, that is on my bucket list, mountain riding, I have 10 thousand plus miles of trail riding but have never did any mountain riding, I have heard that it is a ton of work but a ton of fun and guys that do it say there is nothing better. Where are you riding in that picture?
  3. I'm with xrated, when waterskiing is done for the season and the snow finally flies I ski occasionally, but my true winter passion is for snowmobiling, lots of speed and fun. With no big hills or Mountains here in Ontario to ski or ride but 1000's of miles of snowmobile trails, the choice is really simple.
  4. about 20 to 25 minutes, no traffic all country roads.
  5. Is the score for the women's final correct, I read somewhere Whitney won?
  6. @Jody_Seal. Jody I'll see you in Georgia in a few weeks, looking forward to it.
  7. Dispatcher and part owner of our families Trucking Company, that runs all over north America.
  8. still Ice on the lakes here in Southern Ontario. It was in the 50's last weekend and is supposed to be around 30 this weekend and then warm up again next week, spring is definitely in the air.
  9. Slalom, LFF, right for writing and right for raquets, but left for hockey, Lacrosse, golf and baseball
  10. 16 that I can think of. I second Divorce lake is awesome. Hope to add more to the list this year. Trying to ski at sites in various countries to take in some new culture as well.
  11. Yes, broke both sides of my ankle in a slalom crash, requring a pin and a screw, had to do physio and was given pain killers , tweaked the same ankle in different bindings a few years later requiring physio.
  12. Play hockey twice a week, ski the odd weekend until the snowmobile trails are opened and then snowmobile every weekend I can, only problem is we are getting less and less snow every winter hear in Southern Ontario
  13. jayski, I have heard you can turbo a smoker as well, I actually know a guy in the west that will do one for free if I ship it to him, but I am just a little nervous they won't last during flatland riding? It would be an awesome sled though.
  14. GOODESkier, Where do you ride? by the looks of your sled, probably mountain ride somewhere? I enjoy riding almost as much as skiing, it gives you much of the same rush as skiing the course. I've always wanted to put a turbo on a sled only problem is I've never had a 4 stroke.
  15. Geordie Kurtz, personal best is 3 at 32'. 38 years old, not married and no kids. Operations manager at our family owned trucking Company. Live and ski in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Started skiing when I was about 8, skiing about 5 times a summer. Family bought a cottage when I was 16 and started skiing most weekends from then on. Finally joined McClintocks Ski school when I turned 30 and saw the course for the first time. I got hooked and currently I am a driver for the club and ski every night after work and on weekends. I am on BOL spray every day, great site with great people and very helpful information.
  16. I would second Brooks and KC wilson, great coaches with a real passion for the sport. They are a lot of fun and know their stuff. Skied with them a number of times with a number of different skiers and everyone was impressed.
  17. Has anyone ever skied at Ski Catalina in Dominican Republic. A couple of us at our local ski club want to go on a fall holiday, and thought it may be a nice place to change it up a bit and head there instead of doing our usual Florida trip, Anyone have any information on this place and the hotels around this area, good or bad. Don't want to spend the cash if the ski lake or local beach area is not good. Thanks
  18. thanks for all the great tips, I am going to practice in and out of the course and do a lot of dryland training. I have been working on trying to get in a great leveraged position whenever I am being pulled behind the boat (before the course, and at the end when I pull out to drop.) I read that here before in one of the posts on BOS and it is a great time to practice as we spend a lot of time out of the course. I do get a lot of coaching, however I am limited to a small amount of coaches in the area unless I travel a good distance. I have never spent any time watching ski video's so that is something I will definitely look into purchasing a few. And I think the biggest key is for me to be patient, this sport can be frusturating, but with time the change will happen. Thanks again guys.
  19. I apologize if this topic has already been discussed. I am currently struggling with years of built up bad habits from cottage skiing and it seems like no matter how much I read and no matter what my coaches say I still struggle with bad body position. I have improved, but very little. Currently skiing 34mph at 22 off with the occasional 28 off. My question is: Is it better to free ski to try to break my habits and build new muscle memory? Or am I better to stay in the course and slow the boat down? Or just keep skiing the same speed in the course and do not shorten until I have better body position. I feel if I don't change anything I will not progress any further then I have to this point. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
  20. In the summer besides waterskiing, I play Lacrosse, and motocross and in the winter I play Hockey and I snowmobile, I go to the gym year round.
  21. Geordie Kurtz 37 years old, live in Ariss, Ontario Canada. Work at out family owned trucking company. Started skiing at about the age of 8, about 5 times a year until the age of 16 when we bought the family cottage, started slalom skiing then, finally took some lessons and joined McClintocks Ski Club when I was 29 and have been working at breaking bad habits ever since. I am now a driver/coach at the club and am addicted to skiing. My dream now is too build and live onmy own private ski lake. (will be tough here with the laws in Onatrio)I am a BOS lurker and have learned a ton of the site and visit it pretty well every day. Thanks for all the great posts and to John for all the hard work you do, making this site what it is.
  22. There is a slalom course right in Cumming Georgia, it is in a little bay just to the right of Marine Max (looking from shore) it is a portable course, they usually take it in and out and do to local laws I believe but a lot of them seem to ski in the morning before work and evenings, let me know if you want any more information.
  23. I have recieived coaching from the Wilson brothers, their coaching was top notch, great knowledge and passion for the sport, I went with two other individuals of varying levels, everywhere from 30 mph 15' off to 34 mph 35 off and everyone was extremely happy with the coaching we received. The three of us have already booked our holidays to go back and ski with the Wilson Brothers. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their skiing and have a great time doing it.
